Are Bracken County and Mason County rivals?

Featured Replies

Short answer - no. Don't even play football against each other.

There's a difference between rivalry and hating what is perceived to be "big brother". While Mason is in the middle of the pack enrollment-wise in the 10th, they're "big brother" in the 39th.

Makes for a lot more fun when the smaller schools hit those cycles (like Augusta in basketball for the last few years) where they can take down the big boys.

Very good points. Bracken County just is still in that "wanna-be" stage. Looks like next year MIGHT be the one where the Polar Bears can record at least one win over Mason County, but just a single win won't make it a rivalry either. Can they sustain ?

Always amazing who comes out of the woodwork on threads.:jump:

Rivalries happen when the two teams are always playing meaningful games, the outcome of the season rides on it, and both teams win their share of those games. Bracken-Mason boys programs have several aspects present to be considered rivals (mainly geographical, similarly passional fan/alum bases, and the fans/communities often interact in every day life), but they dont have this aspect of it, and it takes time for that to occur.
