Paul Smith from Owsley County scored over 3,500 points from 1958 to 1962. He averaged 35 ppg his senior season, which may have been tops in the state. He signed with Babe McCarthy at Mississippi State and graduated in 1966. He played against Rupp's Runts and was a starter for the Bulldogs part of his junior season and all of his senior year.

I need to find out how to get his name included on this list. He still lives in Owsley County and is now in his early 70s. He was a great guard, a lefty who had the consecutive free throw record in the SEC for about 20 years until it was finally broken by a Vandy player, I think also a Kentuckian.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

I talked to the former Owsley County girls coach Randall Spencer who played for Owsley and graduated in 1957. He said he kept all of the stats on Paul while he was playing but doesn't have them now. But he said he distinctively remembers that he scored over 3500 points for his career. He was a scoring machine. Incredibly accurate. Coach Spencer said they drove to Starkville once to watch him play against Alabama and he hit 8 consecutive outside jumpers during the game before finally missing a shot.

Faulkner's twin sister also has 3,000 points.
