2nd Region Update 1/17

I'm not surprised by the Madisonville-North Hopkins and Lyon County score. Both teams like low-scoring half-court basketball. I did expect it to be more like 8-10 points for Madisonville's favor but I'm not surprised by the low-scoring, close game. Hopkins County Central and Webster County did surprise me. I expected Hopkins Central to play them closer than the first game and honestly gave them about a 30% chance of winning a close game, but to win by 21 was a huge shock. I doubt that it was because of them looking ahead to Henderson County because Hopkins County Central is a rival game too. My guess is they struggled against the full court pressure now that they are having to figure out the point guard position again.

Lyon loses to Livingston in the All A finals and plays Madisonville tough

The Livingston loss really is a head-scratcher

Yes it is. Especially with that big lead late in the game.

I don't know the details. What happened? I'm assuming you're a Lyon County person?

Whoa! I had not heard the details of how the game went. I can't figure Lyon County out. Their schedule has been very soft, they lose to Livingston Central like that, then they come back completely composed to play one of the best teams in the region a close game.

I did expect Madisonville to win but also thought it would be at least by 10! As for Webster game, they also were without their senior, Gibson.

I don't care who was out for Webster when they play Henderson it will be a knock out drag out kinda game. Their first game was very physical and Webster was up 19-18 at half then Henderson went nuts on them in 2nd half was up 22 with 2mins to go and put subs in.

I agree! Hendo and webster are always tough physical games. I was just saying without Gibson and Payne last night against Central they really struggled with having anyone else ready to step up and play at the varsity level. They are very young! Really struggled against central pressure according to messenger they had 33 turnovers!

Tonight's game against Hoptown and Hendo should be very interesting. Does anyone know if Owens will be ready to play?

Owens out for tonight and is still listed day to day.

Hoptown pulls off upset and beats Hendo at home by 3! Hendo Point guard Carter injures knee in game. Lady Cols still without Owens.

Webster bounced back and beat McCracken County on the road 58-51. And McCracken recently beat Hopkins Central which beat Webster last night!

Madisonville plays Hopkins Central on Friday! Will be interesting to see which Storm team shows up! Big district match-up!

Henderson hoptown game one that you didn't want to watch. 70 free throws 40 hoptown 30 Henderson. Henderson point gaurd hurt start of 2nd quarter. So that was two out, two fouled out middle of 3 rd then two more middle of 4 th at that time they lead by 4. Henderson had 6 players left in the game that could play. Hope these two meet again and we see them get to do more than free throws.

I don't think Gibson would have made a 21 point difference in the game. From what I heard the game could have been worse if Hopkins Central hadn't called off the press early in the 4th quarter. It would have been hard for Gibson to make much of a difference when they struggled to get across half court. I think their point guard being out for the season hurts them more than anything else.
