January 19, 201610 yr Rockmom, that fireplace is gorgeous! Thanks! When I toured the house, we started in the kitchen, which I loved and was pretty much settled my mind then to buy this house. Then we walked through the dining and bedrooms and the floors made me 99.99% certain. Then we got to the living room and I saw the fireplace and even though I looked at more houses, all of the above had stolen my heart....oh...and the front porch.
January 19, 201610 yr Anyone have experience with bamboo? Go the strand route. It's harder and more durable. Depending on the amount you're laying (if you do it yourself), you will possibly go through a couple saw blades and may need to pre-drill some nail holes.
January 19, 201610 yr And finally the fireplace. Excuse the plants. They'll be moved outdoors when weather permits. I don't think the hearth looks that bad. However, doesn't seem right to have a wooden hearth. I would try to locate some of the same green tile. If it couldn't be located, maybe a solid piece of stone that has a uniform color as to not take away from the tile and mantel.
