A FOOTBALL LIFE: Debby and Jim Matney share passion for each other and sports

By MARK MAYNARD The Daily Independent

PAINTSVILLE Football, family and Thanksgiving have been part of Debby Matney’s life as long as she can remember.

She will celebrate the holiday today with her family — while keeping her thoughts and prayers on the following day.

Debby Matney’s husband is Jim Matney, the successful head coach of the Johnson Central High School football team that plays Friday in the Class 4A semifinals against Wayne County in Monticello.

It’s the third time in Matney’s career that he has taken a team this far in the Kentucky state playoffs — 1999 with Sheldon Clark and 2006 with Johnson Central — but he’s never jumped this hurdle.

Maybe this year.

Jim is a great guy and family man. Nice article about a fellow Belfry guy from back in the day.

If if you read this Coach Matney, good luck the next two weeks. I hope you and the Eagles bring home a state championship.

Great article. I love the pics too! Good luck this week coach matney!

A great article... Probably good for a lot of fans to read - might make them think twice before ripping a coach in the stands, or on forums.
