November 17, 201510 yr Red Dawson, an assistant football coach with Marshall during the late 60's and early 70's, has released a book detailing his experiences leading up to and after the tragic plane crash that took the lives of most the team. I'm half way through the book now. He has cleared up some of the glorification that the movie, We Are Marshall, portrayed. I have really enjoyed the book so far.

Can you elaborate on the discrepancies ?
November 18, 201510 yr Author Yes, but don't read this if you plan on reading the book yourself. LOL. In the movie Red was supposed to fly back on the plane but at the last minute switched places with another coach so that that coach could attend his grand daughter's piano recital. That was never the case. Red and another coach took a university station wagon down to East Carolina because they were stopping at a junior college on the way down and back doing recruiting visits. Two assistant coaches did switch places on the way back, but it wasn't Red. Also in the movie Red is offered the head coaching position after the crash but turns it down. In reality he wanted the job but was never offered. Those are just two of the difference.
