Hold your horses...I'm not finished yet...I still have about 15,000 or so pop songs to post.

And this one:

I absolutely love love love "Holding Back The Years", but with it's mellow dramatic tone it doesn't feel like pop to me. It came out around the same time I did, and It seemed to echo my feelings at that time in my life.

God bless you, BBFan, but you've definitely gotten away from the idea in my head on some of yours — not that I've not enjoyed it as a music junkie. I'm thinking of pop song from the Lennon/McCartney and Brian Wilson (and to a lesser-known degree, Alex Chilton) stylings in terms of pop song structure.

The term "Pop" is somewhat difficult to completely define, yet to me it is mostly upbeat in nature, happy or happy-ish, but it's not always completely necessary to be lyrically so, normally repetitive (verse-chorus-verse-chorus or variations of that formula), can find itself in a numerous vast bunch of genres, and follows pretty much your initial description in how you described it when starting this thread, but as I can't give it a complete definitive definition, I won't hold you to how you described it, and I'm guessing that finding a solid way to describe it for you eludes you to some degree as well. It's somewhat hard to describe a feeling.

I do dig the songs that I posted no matter the era, and though many of the artists might have other decent songs, if they didn't follow that certain "pop" flavor that I understand it to be, I avoided posting them.

Some "pop" can be extremely fluffy, while all out "pop" or "pop" elements can find itself in various levels all the way to even being found in edgy and rockin' tunes.

Some tunes that I posted carry that "pop" flavor more than others, but I feel pretty certain that 99.9% of what I posted can be described as either all out "pop", or with "pop" elements, but "pop" is in everyone of them nonetheless, while some had faster tempos than others, but I totally stayed away from ballads even from artists mostly known as pop artists, or slower tunes that didn't carry that certain "pop" feeling.

With that said I definitely can hear "pop" elements in some slower tunes such as Bee Gee's "Too Much Heaven" but stayed away from tunes that felt mellow dramatic, serious in a lovey dovely way, or laid back, opting more for songs with faster tempos and more upbeat natures.

Some tunes can start off with an introduction that doesn't completely feel "popish" yet when the song kicks in the "pop" fully reveals itself.

I haven't posted any Nirvana songs, but as all out raw as they were some of their tunes could be described as having punk/pop elements within it's hard rockin' grungy way.

For example, The Vines - "Get Free" is raw and punky, yet it has pop in its repetitive structure, and in a way even its feeling, while still being a million miles away from the all out bouncy "poppish" feeling of The Go Go's - "We Got The Beat".

With what you're saying, I guess that I'm now a bit puzzled in what you consider to be "pop". I see the pop in the songs that you posted, and of course they're from two entirely different genres with a different feeling about them, but I still hear the "pop" in them that you're hearing.

With every song that I posted I sorta put them through my "pop meter" to decide if they fit into a "pop" or "poppish" category, and discarded many that didn't, and only posted the ones that I was hearing "pop" in.

Some of the artists that I posted have some other great songs that I like a lot, and even at times felt the urge to post them, but had to be honest with myself that as much as I liked the song it really didn't have any, or enough "pop" in it to satisfy the thread's theme.

Just for kicks if you'd like, give a few, or more examples of where you're not hearing the "pop" in some of the songs that I've posted. I heard the "pop" in them all, so it would be interesting by your definition or idea of what "pop" is, why they're not, or you don't consider them to be.
