Bulldogs sign highly-recruited Dunaway

(BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - June 9) - Union College men's basketball coach Kelly Combs made a big splash on the recruiting trail as he landed one of the top high school players in Kentucky as Aaron Dunaway of Lexington, Ky., recently committed to play for the Bulldogs in 2006-07.

"We are extremely excited to have Aaron join our program," Combs said. "He's been one of the top players in the state, especially the past two seasons, and we are expecting great things from him at Union."

Congratulations and he was one of the best players, I saw this year.

The great news is that Aaron does get a scholarship to a free education and continue his hoops career. I have just a couple of questions however. First, can anyone share what type of program Union is, divison and tradition? If Aaron is one of the states "top" graduating seniors and signed for Union, what does this mean for last year graduating class's talent?

Union is NAIA. Good basketball talent.

He's a solid player - not D1 IMO. Union is a very good fit and he will do well.

The Union Bulldogs are NAIA Division 2. They are a member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference. At one time, last season, they were ranked 21st in the nation. Their record from last year was 22-11. The Bulldogs finished second during the regular season and made to the championship game of the conference tournament.

Kelly Combs is the head coach. He was an assistant at Berea College before taking this job. I've known him for about 10 years. He's a very good coach and even a better person. Matthew Yates is the assistant coach.
