North Laurel awarded minor & little league fastpitch state tourneys

I will tell you what, after watching some of these little league girls play, North and South Laurel both have to be very excited about continuing their success. They both have some amazingly solid pitchers as well as excellent fielding, fast baserunners and solid batters. Pineville-Bell has improved quite a bit the past few seasons and they have a little catcher (Slusher I think is her name) who is a dynamite ballplayer who has been very impressive this week.

It has been a very good week for the district play (Minor & LL finishing up this week) and will continue this coming weekend with the Jr and 11 yr old divisions. District 4 should be sending some excellent teams to the state tourney starting on 7-14-06.

Clay lost to Tri Cities last night and were eliminated. Tonight Tri Cities plays Pulaski (I think) and the winner plays North Laurel for the #2 spot in the district and the right to play in the state tourney on 7-14-06 at NLLL.

I talked with Roger Strong (a teacher at Clay County and coach of the NL 11 yr old team) and he told me about Clay having a girl who just moved into the area this past year and her coach from league play got her last in the draft as noone knew who she was. She turned out to be the best hitter in their 11-12 year old league. I watched her hit last night, and she was probably one of the best pure power hitters I saw at this entire tournament. She can flat out hit the pill. I cannot remember her name off the top of my head, but she can stroke it.

The way the 11 year tourney has looked so far, district 4 could end up being a clean sweep for the London area teams. N Laurel is in the drivers seat after defeating Pulaski County 11-1 on Sunday. The winner of the Pulaski vs S London game will play N Laurel on Tuesday and if N Laurel wins, they win the district and qualify for the state tourney. If N Laurel loses, the 2 teams will play again on Weds for a trip to the state tourney. There will only be 1 qualifier for the 11 yr old state tourney from district 4.

Well, you jumped the gun a bit on the Senior League tourney, but your "prediction" ended up being right, as North swept Knox County 4-0, 20-4 on Monday night. :D

I heard incorrectly that Knox had dropped out, but in the end I was correct! Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while I guess!

Who won the 11 yr old game between South London and Pulaski and plays North Laurel tonight? The last I had heard, PC was up 18-15 in the 5th inning and it sounded like either a ton of hitting or a whole lotta walks, but a real barnburner.

Pulaski 20-16. There were 34 walks. It was excruciating.

Ouch! I know that after 2 & 1/2 hours they were just getting into the 5th inning of a 6 inning game. If you were there for all of it, I feel sorry for you. Both those teams had to be pretty tired. Hopefully, there won't be that many walks in tonights NL vs PC rematch. That's why I think NL will win the district tonight. They don't seem to walk many runners and their defense makes plays. Plus they seem to be patient at the plate and can hit the ball when it is in the strike zone.

Lot of teams from London qualified for the state tourney beginning this weekend. The 11 yr old team qualified for NL after winning their district title game by a score of 18-1 (per the Corbin paper). Sounds like some good young softball players from London will keep both programs (which are both already very solid) stocked in talent for several years to come. :thumb:

Also a good little column in the Times-Tribune (we are not the Corbin paper. we are the Tri-County paper...and we have covered the same or just as many Laurel County sports and news events compared to any other...get it right:)...any way, North has a very talented team.

Very good column! Read it this morning! On top of it, aren't you?

Good to see both you and Chris there! I guess if you put both of your brains together, .... nevermind! j/k ;)

The state tourney ought to be a lot of fun starting this saturday. I think someone told me that there will be 15 games played at NLLL complex on Saturday alone with the various tourneys.

15 games this Saturday? Ahhh, makes my decision to take vacation for the next 11 days even better:)
