The Williamsburg Story

Featured Replies

The season Williamsburg is having is an interesting one. State runner-up by the closest of margins last year, Williamsburg graduated everyone. Only a couple players who started games returned this year. In their opener, they lost 51-0. Think about those last two games played by this year's Williamsburg players - heartbreaking loss in state championship to 51-0 in their season opener. Think about the blow that must have been to this year's players. They finally get their chance to start and they lose 51-0.

Week 2 it didn't get much better as they took a 41-20 loss to a team that did not win a game last year. Do you think thoughts of going winless themselves at least momentarily jumped into their thoughts?

Week 3 they face an undefeated 2A Leslie County. This could get ugly, right? Wrong. Williamsburg took a loss but it was an 8 point loss to a team that is still undefeated as of this writing. That's progress, right?

Week 4, a road trip to 1A #2 Paintsville. No more progress here, at least in looking at the score as Paintsville wins by 25.

Week 5 and here comes another opponent that could be trouble. A long road trip to visit Ludlow, riding high with a 4-1 record. Think about that bus ride. You are 0-4 and only close to winning one of those games. You have a tough opponent ahead of you. Where do you find the confidence and belief you can win? But they did win! I can only imagine how much fun that long bus ride home was.

Now, this week, another 4-1 opponent in Harlan. But now you know you can win against a 4-1 team. And as you look at the rest of the schedule, you see teams you know you can beat. You see an 0-4 start turning into 5-4 and a 5 game winning streak.

How are they doing it? Who are the new faces leading this Williamsburg team? How far can this turnaround go? Do you think they win out in the regular season? How far can they go in the playoffs?

Ceiling= Regional Finals Loss

Most Likely= 2nd Round Loss to Hazard

They definitely are improving.. but I don't see them beating a team of Pikeville's caliber in the playoffs.

They must have a solid leader on the team. Great to see at such a young age.

Pike ills will have a long bus ride if that game happens, and don't forget Pikeville's choke job last year. Williamsburg by no means is the region favorite but with a district championship everyone comes to them, they could be in Bowling Green with a few breaks and I mean that. They also changed quarterbacks after the first game.
