OG- the field was in pretty good shape last night (as far as wet muddy spots go) however the rutts in the field are really bad. No slips and falls last night due to mud. Good luck to the boys tonight..

An interesting definition from socceramerica.com:

PITCH: An English word for a sports field. It is not specific to soccer -- there are cricket and field hockey and rugby pitches as well. It has come into vogue in the United States, mouthed by those who feel they are showing some special inside knowledge when they use it. They are merely being pretentious. The American term "field" is all that is required.

If you are going to use the world "pitch," at least use an English accent. If you are REALLY into it, tell us which accent you are using?

Hard to discern someone's motives when they call a field a "field" or a "pitch". I use both terms for variety. Some have been corrected on here when using the term "field" for a soccer field. I suppose every sport has its lingo and that is okay, no pretentiousness involved. I suppose the only ones that can be accurately called pretentious are those who insist that others are pretentious when they use a preferred term.

I can't wait to see Boone and Ryle on the gridiron this evening :sarcastic:

Boone parents need to "pitch" the fact that they need a new "pitch" to the BOE.

Well, as much as I'd like to see a turf field at Boone, if you're talking "needs" verses "wants" there are so many other upgrades the school needs. It is old and is not adequate for its enrollment--the auditorium comes to mind. Pretty good for the 1970's and 1/4 the student body. Ryle had a new school and got turf. Cooper has a new school and so turf is probably a little higher on their priority list because many of the other needs are taken care of already. But for a school like Boone that is old, with inadequate facilities, turf is a little further down the priority list.

Besides, as I have contended in many threads--God intended futbal, football, lacrosse, and field hockey (can't play that on a "pitch" can you?) to be played on grass.

Hard to argue with God's intention.......when do you think Boone will get actual grass?

:lol2:

Just messin' with you Ol Grap.....
