Bowling Green is looking more and more like the number one team in Class 5A. Some may make the crazy argument that Pulaski County should be number one until beaten, but provide some more concrete argument for them to overtake Bowling Green. Owensboro and Fern Creek are on the verge, who high can they go? Is Southwestern ready to compete with Pulaski County? Where will Highlands and Covington Catholic end up?

Owensboro and Fern Creek are on the verge, who high can they go? Is Southwestern ready to compete with Pulaski County? Where will Highlands and Covington Catholic end up?

 

The counter to that argument is that until Pulaski can beat BG head to head, the Purples deserve the nod.

I am really liking Fern Creek right now.

 

Someone made the comparison to Louisville Central when they finally dropped down in Class. A change of scenery may do them good... the athletes are there... if the confidence and ability to avoid some of the 6A juggernauts is in place...this could be a scary team.

 

 

Southwestern just doesn't do it for me to be perfectly honest. When I look at the Warriors I see a good team with no chance at a State Title. They are not very fast and their offense is stagnant at times. With that said, they are big, have some nice pieces, and play pretty good Defense. Do I think Southwestern will hoist the trophy? No Would I want to see my team play them in November when it is 38 degrees, raining, and on the road? Absolutely not.

I've been one who thinks Pulaski County should be #1 but only because they are the defending champs who returned the whole team. That's all I got. I think BG is a year away from being the undisputed #1 team in 5A and I expect another long run of titles to begin next season. BG is worthy of being #1 but I am less confident about them this season and the St. X game has a lot to do with that mindset. I do hope that BG and Pulaski County meet in the finals but I wouldn't be surprised if Owensboro or even Fern Creek makes it there. Fern Creek surprised me last week. Maybe @theguru and @Ram are on to something.

I think you may get an opportunity to see a Bowling Green/Fern Creek game this year.

Fern Creek is playing hard nosed football right now. Other than the standout Kinslow they are not huge but play solid as a team and fly to the ball on defense. Ran into some Pulaski football families over the weekend, classy folks...best of luck to them. With all they have returning from last year they should be a tough out.
