[h=1]The Lexington/Central Kentucky Power Rankings – Sept. 20 Sponsored by Jess-105.9 [/h] The Rankings

10) Henry Clay (6A / 3 – 1)

Since losing to St. X in the Bluegrass Bowl the Blue Devils are on a three game winning streak that includes a 50 to 26 win over 4A Knox Central at Knox Central Friday night. Senior Joquise Buford returned to the line-up against Tates Creek and had 321on 34 carries. Along with senior RB Austin Bledsoe the Blue Devils seem to have a very potent backfield. Next up is Lafayette in a game will add some clarity to the 6A situation in Central Kentucky.

9) Garrard County (3A / 4 – 1)

The Golden Lions defeated another higher class team with a 40 to 0 win over East Jessamine this week. Since losing their opener by 1 point to Shelby County the Golden Lions have hit their marks winning four in a row, all against higher class opponents. Coming up is 2A and 3-1 Lloyd Memorial. Junior running back Jacob Foley has been the main offensive weapon for the Lions with 392 yards and 4 TDs through the first four games.

8) Lexington Christian (2A / 4 – 1)

The Lexington Christian Eagles suffered their first loss to a previously winless Walton-Verona at home with a score of 28-27. Next up is 1A Fairview at Fairview.

7) Danville (2A / 3 – 1)

The Admirals were idle this week. After the first 4 games, junior QB Zack Dampier has passed for 819 yards, 10 TDs and has only 3 interceptions. His favorite target is sophomore Dmauriae VanCleave with 20 receptions for 285 yards. The Admirals play at 2A Green County this week in a non-district game.

6) Lexington Catholic (3A / 3 – 2)

The Knights get back-to-back wins against higher class opponents to jump back into the rankings this week. The Knights escaped 6A Madison Central at home with a 46 to 41 victory last year. This year, the Knights took care of business on both sides on the ball and left out the drama of last year. Under the direction of reserve QB Kirk Fagot and with another strong defensive showing the Knights shut out the Indians for an impressive 41 to 0 road win. These two teams looked very different than 3 weeks ago, each going in different directions over the last two weeks. The Knights go to 6A Cooper this week before going into district play.

5) Lafayette (6A / 3 – 2)

The Generals were up against the top ranked Scott County Cardinals at home this week. They got down, fought back but could not get stops at any point. With a worn out defense the Generals went down 65 to 46. After the Shamrock beat down there was a question if the Generals may face another running clock. They regrouped and fought well but now know they have work to do if they want to make a run in post season. The Generals face in county rivals Henry Clay and Bryan Station the next two weeks.

4) Franklin County (4A / 5 – 0 )

The Flyers squeaked by 5A Anderson County 33 to 30 at home this past weekend. This week the Flyers enter district play against Shelby County at home. Through the first four games senior quarterback Barrett Sanderson had thrown for 917 yards with 10 TDs and only one interception. He was averaging 229 yards per game. He likes to spread around his completions to seniors Demarcus Kennedy and Landon Hurst and also freshman DeJuan Davis.

3) Bryan Station (6A / 4 – 1)

Coach Frank Parks Defenders defeated Meade County by a score of 54 to 14 in a game played at Meade County. The remainder of the Defender regular season schedule is against the local 6A contingent. Out of district games against Tates Creek and Lafayette are next. Then the Defenders play Dunbar, Scott County and Henry Clay.

2) Scott County (6A / 4 – 1)

The Cardinals defeated Lafayette 65 to 46 at Lafayette. Jim McKee has the Cardinals flying on the offensive side but the defense has some ruffled feathers it seems. The Cardinals go against a winless George Rogers Clark team before entering district games that include Bryan Station and Henry Clay.

1) Boyle County (3A / 5 – 0)

Chuck Smith’s Rebels manhandled 4A Collins at Collins 48 to 14. The Rebels had more TDs than Collins had offensive plays when the score was 28 to 0. This was another impressive win for Smith’s Version 2.2 Rebel team. The Rebels showed strength in every aspect of their game in this game and their pervious outings. Due to this they get the top spot this week. This week Boyle County plays a reeling 5A Lincoln County team. The Rebels then have a bye week before going into district play where they will play Garrard County and then Lexington Catholic in the two games that may give a couple more test of the Rebels this season.

Ranking Notes

Madison Central and Anderson County fell out of the top 10 after losing two in a row. The Indians are reeling after losing to 6A Bryan Station and running clock loss at home against 3A Lexington Catholic.

5A Montgomery County is now 4 – 1. 1A Paris is now 5 -0 after a 63 – 7 thrashing of Middlesboro. Woodford County is at 3 – 2.

Lafayette’s schedule may provide some insight into the 6A race statewide. The Generals gave Scott County a good game for over three quarters and posted 46 points this weekend. But the same Generals lost to Trinity with a running clock and struggled to score in that game. And last weekend Trinity lost to Male 42 to 13. Is Male that good?

Game of the Week

Lafayette (6A #5) vs Henry Clay (6A #10), September 25, 7:30. Henry Clay High School.

The spotlight stays on 6A and Lafayette Generals this week as they take on a Henry Clay that has rebounded after losing to St. X in their opener. Lafayette needs this win to show that, while they are not the best 6A in Central Kentucky, they are still a top team. A Henry Clay win upsets the ranking and give the Blue Devils a springboard into district play.

Another game to follow is Lexington Catholic at Cooper. Can the Knights get some proxy revenge with a win over Highlands beater Cooper?

How can Lexington Christian be ranked after losing to Walton-Veroona?

I know Boyle County is good, but if they played Scott County they'd lose by 2-3 touchdowns. Big difference in overall talent and depth.

Scott County gives up too many points to beat Boyle County. Boyle would win this year.

Boyle County is really good. I'm not so sure I can agree with that statement. IMO you can't go wrong with putting either team at #1 but Boyle County has been the more impressive team thus far.
