Boone County 3 Bryan Station 1

Recommended Posts

Bryan Station opened the scoring in this match when a center defender made a mistake allowing BSt striker to dribble through and was one on one with the Keeper.

Boone did everything but put the ball in the net until fairly late in the 1st half. Couldn't seem to find net. Went to halftime tied 1-1.

The second half began and Boone really controlled the action. They had a lot of chances down at goal and scored on a run through by Downs. Near the end of the game Bryan Station committed a penalty inside the box. Benjamin, who was not in the goal for Boone at all in this matchup took the PK. He kicked it to the left post low and it bounced off the goalie. Benjamin got an easy put back to complete the scoring for this game.

Bryan Station looks like they have a little bit better team this year than last. They had a few boys who had some skills. Not a lot of depth coming off the bench and not many players on the team either.

They did a fair amount of cheap shot-type stuff and busch league shenanigans, like keeping the ball from a Boone kid as he tried to pick it up for a throw-in. The penalty kick happened as a result of a BSt player throwing a forearm to the back of the head of Benjamin while he was in the box. This happened away from the play of the ball. Benjamin went down hard. Bryan Station player was heard to say earlier that he was "Gonna **** take him out when I get a chance." This threat was heard by a ref who did nothing at that point. Well the kid took his shot and received a red card and hence the PK. I am trying to figure out what led up to this. Benjamin did act like he was going to step in front of Bryan St. goalie during a goal kick. The ref warned Benjamin. Another play involving Benjamin occurred when Benjamin jumped up and blocked a throw-in with his body. He was more than 2 feet from the sideline and so it was legal and play was not stopped. The guy doing the throw-in was the same player who later threw the forearm. Not sure about any other interactions involving Benjamin.

Boone easily won this one though they didn't score as many as they probably should have.

Sounds likes both teams did some bush league stuff.....

OTB, you're always good for some realism. I told you the extent of Boone's involvement. That was it, though they took quite a bit of provocation during the match.

Thanks, OTB, there was a moment when it could have gone south... right after our kid got clubbed in the head from behind but coach wisely yelled out to the field and told the team to get to the sideline. One or two were exchanging words but the senior leaders got the team over to the sideline and it passed without further incident.

Not sure I would have been that mature when I was 17.
