The reason for Tichenor moving divisions (first small school, then large school, and now middle school division ) from what I understand the moves happened for a few reasons. First the number of boys coming out for the team kept growing each school year. Second, the Trojans pretty much dominated their opponents and playing in the larger division created more of a competitive balance. However, the school board requested the team move down to the middle division and I have heard some people speculate that part of the resson for the move is that the team is looking for a new head coach. The Tichenor program has been outstanding in its 5 years of existence with only 2 losses in their history.

Like I said before, this had nothing to do with competition/competitive balance, number of kids on the team, etc. They never wanted to move up to the large school division. The NKMSAA decided to move them up last year simply because Holmes did not field a team (they had the previous two years) and Tichenor was the largest school in the medium school division. The moved back down as the school board wants the middle school to compete against schools more their size, as they are much smaller than the smallest big school. This move was discussed well before their head coach left.

 

Tichenor has been a very good program, and despite their size, could likely still compete with the large schools. Last year, Tichenor was easily the best school in the entire NKMSAA and Walton was likely a close second.

Thanks for the clarification rjs4470. It just goes to show that when info comes from football parents and not those in the know that it must be taken with a grain of salt. Again, thank you for the update. Heres to another year of quality NKMSAA football.

Summit View is not going to field a team?

 

Any word on Summit View?? And is Tichenor in the small school Division??? I thought they were in the medium school?

Summit View will have a team, and play in the large school division. Tichenor, as was mentioned before, is playing in the medium school division.

Summit View and Beechwood will be participating in the Battle in Union Scrimmage on Saturday August 1st at Ryle High School.
