Knox Central Basketball Coach Resigns

Featured Replies

I've not been able to find official confirmation yet, but very good sources have stated that James Voight has resigned.

We heard last year that this was a one year deal. And that he would leave after this year. Heard they where grooming Tony Patterson for the job.

Knox had as much talent last year as anybody in the Region should have left Evans as coach for at least another year but that is what happens when you let parents run the program got the same result getting beat in the Regional tournament.

If they let Evans coach there'd have been a mutiny, if there were even any kids left by then. I know of at least one high profile kid who was rumored to be leaving if Evans had stayed. No way they'd have kept that team in tact with him. The kids thought they didn't like Elam, but they loved him compared to Evans from all I've gathered.

What experience does Patterson have? Is he politically connected?

What experience does Patterson have? Is he politically connected?

Played at KC and East Tenn State, and a couple of years professionally overseas. Coaching experience other than as an assistant last season is limited to the elementary school level. Has been named as interim coach for the summer schedule. Tryout maybe?

I've heard the name of a young coach in the area who'd be a really good fit and am wondering if he's going to apply.

Any ideas who is in the running for the next head coach?

I have heard that Steve Abner is the player's choice, not sure if he has a shot or not though.

I'm telling you I know this to be fact. This Was Put In Place LAST year. TONY PATTERSON will be the coach. Voight was coming back to Ky anyway, giving him the job satisfied the players and parents while giving Patterson a chance to get his feet under him. Unless something changes between now and them it's a done deal.

I've heard Nick Napier, a current assistant at Bell County and former assistant at Scott County. He'd be a great choice. Young guy but still has some experience, already has a state championship ring. Player's coach who would be someone that the kids and parents really liked. He's as far from a "yeller and screamer" as you can get; he can teach the game and still develop kids without all that. Just heard his name mentioned but would definitely be a good choice and will make a difference in whichever program gives him his first chance as a head coach.

When will Patterson become official? I was told that KC sent feelers out to Coach Phipps, but that he wasn't interested.
