Praying before a game

Featured Replies

I'm curious how the Lord could function at a parimutuel track. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but for the system to work, there has to be a losing ticket sold for every winning ticket that is sold ... more or less ... because there is no "house." So if the Lord chooses winners, he also must necessarily choose losers? The more I think about this, the more confused I get.

Quit thinking about "the Lord" and maybe confusion will slack off a bit.

Pretty much spot on what I pray for pre-game. I never have prayed for victory, but pray that ALL the kids play their best and hardest. If they all do that the team that was supposed to win will.

Oh yeah, if all the teams pray equally hard the team that is supposed to win will. I wish you all will stop and actually listen to what you say sometimes. Funny stuff though.

My team prays an Our Father after every game, win or lose by any amount. Coach does it to keep calm after losses and to stay humble after victories. Even the non-Christians join in. Its really neat.

To each his own. I say if it keeps you calm and humble , keep right on sending out those prayers. lol I don't need to say prayers to the invisible master of the universe to keep calm and humble.... wait a minute... maybe....nah .

I think I'll pray tonight that the Lord will speak to Walt and put on his heart and mind to release some washed up relief pitchers. Wonder if "the Lord" likes baseball? lol

I've never understood praying for a certain outcome of a game. I really don't think God is a fan of certain teams or that he dislikes certain teams. I think sportsmanship is over-rated especially when it comes down to a desire to win, but I think it's fine to ask for protection from injuries and things like that.

We always said the lords prayer , and by the end I was so pumped because it was time to go. Never prayed for victory, we took care of that!

I prayed for victory before every game because I really wanted to win. The Bible says we are to present our requests to God through prayer and petition. Did he deliver a victory into my hands? I don't know, but even if it was not him, I still thanked him for the victory.

I sure wish he would have answered with a yes in march of 2000 when we barely lost to Madeira in the finals. I still have nightmares about that one.

So, is God a Yankees fan? He clearly isn't a Cubs fan.

The most righteous or most moral or most Christian team doesn't always win. So, is God hearing the requests of the unrighteous team and assisting in their victory? I know, God works in mysterious ways or something like that. Or something about how no matter what happens, it's Gods will even if it sucks.

I mean, I've been involved in games, on both ends, that were just an absolute curb stomping of a beating. The only praying for the outcome, would be that it ended sooner. I'm not a religious person in the slightest, but I just can't really imagine why God would really want to pick a winner in a game of any sort. Especially when nothing that massive is riding on the results.

Does God just not acknowledge the prayers of the loser? And if God did care about who won, wouldn't the whole idea of Christianity basically mean God always would favor the under dog?

I'm not trying to be rude or mean, but I really just don't understand the logic.

And your probably right. But I am instructed through scriptures (Philippians 4) to present my requests to God through prayer and petition.

So if I really want something, I pray for it. Do I always get it? No.

Do I usually get it? I don't think so.

When I do get it, is it God who delivered? I don't know but I still thank him anyway.

How could you possibly disagree with this line of thinking?
