How many girls can be on the freshman, jv, and varsity team? I notice that teams tend to have girls do double duty....as in playing on jv and varsity or freshman and jv team. Is there a max for the team as a whole (fresh., jv, varsity)? Anyways just curious as to why.

To be honest, I don't think there is a limit.

 

For us at NewCath its always been a numbers thing, as in getting enough players. Since the fast pitch program began in 2007, 8th graders from our feeders have always played on the JV team. This year they play both JV and Frosh. We started a Frosh team (consisting of 6th & 7th graders) 5 years ago because the was no fastpitch league in Campbell Co to get these girls acclimated to the game before they entered high school and at the time a few schools were doing the same.....so it made sense to do it and it has made a difference.

 

This years varsity consist of 5 seniors, 1 junior, 5 sophomores, & 3 freshman.

This years freshman consist of 1 freshman, 8 8th graders, & 5 7th graders.

For JV games 7 8th graders join a few fosh and soph.

 

3 years ago because of numbers our JV team had 6 frosh & 1 soph.....all of whom were varsity starters.

The fast pitch leagues really make a difference. My daughter is in middle school at Ludlow--she plays both JV and varsity. The JV team consists of 7-10th graders--most of them having never played fast pitch softball. There really is nothing in Northern Kenton County for these girls. We were lucky to find NKYA and NKB to get her started before moving to travel but both of those leagues involved driving to Independence or Boone County for practices/games. Fast pitch is a great game! I wish more girls in my area had access to it.

There are no limits to roster numbers.

 

I have 20 total- 11 of them play both ways.

Our varsity starts 2-8th graders, 2-Freshman, 1 sophomore, 4 Jrs, and one Sr. We play with a flex, that's why there is 10. We only have 7 players in our entire program that are sophomores or above. Our entire JV team is freshman or below and this year we have the first two ever freshman playing on the freshman team. We have never had a freshman on the freshman team before.

 

We are at a place where we don't have too much crossover from team to team. We have 35 kids in the program now. We do have crossover, but really only use crossover for rewards to the girls that are working hard and improving. We allow them to dress up a level when they prove they are ready. We feel this gives them exposure to the "next level" for them which hopefully helps when it's their turn to be the "go to" player.
