What do the 3 bunnies mean?

This ranking and a $1.06 will get you a coke at McDonalds. This means nothing, as I've stated previously, the trophy is in the case at OHS and the banner will be flying from OHS gym and the Devils will be wearing the rings.

I'll add my thoughts in here to bring the total value up to $1.08. Agreed that Owensboro are the undisputed champs, and have the banners and rings. But, is it truly all or nothing? The only thing that matters is the last team standing, all others bow in shame? I doubt that is your point MountaineerMan, nobody is that Ricky-Bobby-esque.

But if you follow that logic, then perhaps year-end rankings are at least worth the $1.06 coke. How else can a team measure their performance? There are ways of course, # of wins, quality wins, how far you made it in the tourney,... All of these are good, but all of these are flawed. This is another metric - a comprehensive measure of the complete body of work over the entire season.

Is it any consolation for the Ballard players? Probably not today, I know they would trade places with Owensboro's in a second. But, maybe someday in the not too distance future they can find some solace in the great season they enjoyed.

Or, how about Louisville Central, eliminated in the first round of the 7th Region tournament this year and last year. Sure, they had a lot more wins this year than last, but anyone who has been around high school basketball knows that strength of schedule is everything. Here, we factor that out of the equation, Central moved up from #88 last season, to a Top 20 season this year. It is something a coach can build on with his players.

Or how about countless other teams, eliminated in the same spot as previous years, perhaps with less wins than before because of tougher schedules? Could they find some sense of accomplishment in a similar way?

That is where I find some practical use in the year end rankings.

Almost forgot. RealDeal, I can't really argue the point with Holmes. They finished #28 , less than a point behind #25 Warren Central. Really, this is within the margin of error as they say in political polling.

Which is exactly what every ranking will get you, so mention it? Rankings are rankings. The people on top don't always like them either.

I agree with soccermath the value of a season is more than the result of a one and done tournament.

Absolutely true except in one pretty high profile example - NCAA college football. Better this year than ever before, but still rankings are playing a part in who top 4 are. Even in my opinion, the rankings are playing too big of a roll in this case.

Definitely not year ending, because a lot of the teams did not make it to state. ie.. Henderson, Ky.
