Nice story about him, but I HATE these headlines they use now to pull people in to read. So doing something like this is now so uncommon that a "You wouldn't believe what he is doing now?" headline is used?

 

I'd say someone whose made $120 million in his career as an NBA player going back to his Middle School is uncommon.

I have had at least two predictions in my time where I had to eat crow and was completely wrong. The first was when Penny was coming out of college and I said he would be a bust in the pros. I would watch him at Memphis and he would be 3 for 22 from the field with 10 foul shots and they called it a good game. I thought he was over hyped, lets just say I missed that one. I really enjoyed him in Orlando.

 

My other blunder was when Nazr Mohammed left early for the pros, I said he wasn't ready.

 

I think that's fair though. He could have used another year of seasoning, especially considering that the league was heading toward a long lockout (which inevitably happened) that put rookies like him in a bit of a tough spot.

Penny was one of my heros growing up, I never liked Jordan like the other kids. I knew he was good and respected that but for some reason Penny was always my guy. Sucks to see a career go down like that, he was destined for great things. Grant Hill is another tough one, sad to see guys like that lose their chance because of injuries.

 

I saw the post about having to buy all the Penny memorabilia and it reminded me of myself back in those days. Still have this to prove it!
