Harrison County overcomes 7 errors to win for the 11th time in 13 games. JD Ashbrook homered twice for the Breds. James Custard hit his 7th homer of the year and also picked up the win in relief. Coach Mac Whitaker coached in his 1000th game tonight. His overall record is 773-227!

The Patriots put a scare into the Breds last night. Caleb Hall pitched a good game for KCC. The Breds were forced to change pitchers 5 times in this game. KCC had the lead twice but a couple of errors helped, not to mention the boys in blue, the Breds to get the lead.

 

Also, I would like to give Zach Mullins a big ol' pat on the back for his first home run. Zack, an 8th grader, lead off the top of the 2nd with a HR to LF. :ylsuper:

This was a very close game all the way until the last inning. The game was actually tied 9-9 in the bottom of the 5th. But its usually just hard for mountain teams to come up to areas like Harrison Co and compete.

That takes a lot of class to make a statement like that.

 

No doubt Harrison has a lot of history and a good program. Harrison has a very good team. And, I'm sure they didn't play well on Saturday evening. And I am very sure that they overlooked Knott Central. Any good coach will tell his team to never overlook any team. They will bite you. KCC almost did that. Take away a couple of errors from our blue team and a couple of errors from your "blue" team, and this game may have had a different outcome. One thing that I can say about Knott County's baseball team is, is that they come to play every game, they don't take anything for granted. Yea, they'll have there bad games and they'll have there good ones. But they'll play until the last out. They could have just given up at any point after the 5th inning, but they didn't. That shows me just how much these boys give their coach, their fans, and each other. 110% each and every game. And yes, they belong on any field, with any team, at any time. :thumb:

I think it was you that started the mudslinging in this post by suggesting that the umpires had cost you the game. The umpires had no bearing on the outcome of this game. The game was never in doubt as far as the Harrison County faithful were concerned. KCC did battle and I will give them credit for that. Harrison did make several pitching changes, but if you've ever been around Harrison County baseball you would know that making 5 changes is nothing new for the Thorobreds. Harrison County is a class program and their fans are also a class act. It's just that when someone accuses losing a 16-9 game on the umps, it doesn't go well. Harrison County did lose 9 seniors from last year, 7 of which signed to play college baseball and also had 2 players who were supposed to start this year who either moved or quit. So, to lose 11 players from last years team including the top 5 pitchers and still be 12-2 is pretty amazing. Good luck to your Patriots the remainder of the season.

I'll stand by my statement about the umps. Not the best IMO. And if you followed the Patriots program, you would find out that when we loose a game that we give the other team their dues. Yes, Harrison has a very good team and I am sure that those boys gave it all they had that night plus more. But I believe that the boys in "blue" cost KCC some runs. The game could have, very well, been a lot closer. Good luck to your team the rest of the season.

A couple of the players had stomach flu and then it was spread to a few more. KCC wasn't 100% this weekend anyway, and then players getting sick caused the coach to back out of Sunday's game.
