February 17, 201511 yr This is a big "get" for Ohio State and yet another sign Urban Meyer is building a machine in Columbus. Tony Alford was going on his 7th year as an assistant at Notre Dame (2nd longest run for an assistant at the school in the last 30 years). Shame on ND for not enticing him to stay with a promotion. Especially since they looked outside the program for an OC. The guy can recruit. In Blue and Gold Illustrated most recruits looking at Notre Dame mention their relationship with Alford as a key.
February 22, 201511 yr This hire has also apparently soothed the Mike Weber situation - kid from Detroit miffed over Drayton leaving the day after signing day. Sounds like Alford was the lead ND coach in Weber's recruitment there.

February 23, 201511 yr I did hear they asked his entire family if they approved. Meyer spoke with Weber's high school coach this weekend too. Sounds like they got things straight. With all the fuss around this kid, I hope he is worth it!
