Holmes @ Ryle 2/6 Predictions

Featured Replies

If Ryle keeps their composure they could win by 1, if they dont they could lose by 25. Im hoping for a good game because me and the daughter are gonna take this one in. Good luck Juliet!

Holmes is on a mission and i dont think there is anyone left to stop them in the regular season. You can say every team is on a mission, but Holmes is a few missed shots from being perfect.

With Tubbs in the line up Holmes by 15 without Holmes by less then 10. But I will also be cheering for Ryles Juliet McGregor to have a solid game.

Okay, I know you all have been sitting on the edge of your seat for my opinion, so here we go! My gut tells me Holmes' pressure will rattle Ryle and they will win this game. By how much is up to Ryle.

I saw HHS' pressure have an effect on Ryle when they played. Now HHS does have that effect on a lot of teams and their pressure and defense is very underrated. So I'm not saying Ryle is a horrible ball handling team. But I think they may struggle with the type of pressure Holmes applies for the entire game. Juliet McGregor is one of my favorite kids in the region...and one of my favorite kids to watch play the game. But this is a lot to ask of an 8th grader to break all this pressure. What I saw from her against HHS was that when she has the ball in her hand, she was outstanding. When HHS would force her to get rid of the ball and make quick decisions against changing defenses, she struggled a little. She should...she's in the 8th grade!

For Ryle to have a chance, they must slow themselves down and read and react. When Holmes goes to a zone press, they must use their bigs to throw over top (DON'T DRIBBLE!). When they are in man press, give the ball to McGregor and clear out. She will have no issues with that. If they panic and try to attack all the time, they will get blown out in my opinion. Holmes doesn't always get their steals in the back court. They are tenacious everywhere. You think you are good and attack and they get a steal or a block. If they work to get the ball up the court, are satisfied with getting it up there and run an offense without a lot of turnovers, they can be a real threat to Holmes. And if they drop back and play a zone, only jumping out on the shooters, then they can also slow them down tremendously because of their length. If that happens, Holmes better use Gulley or it could be a long night for them on offense.

There are a lot of "ifs" there and I'm not sure Holmes is a great matchup for Ryle. I think Ryle will give HC more fits than Holmes. But "if" they can figure out a way to not panic when the heat is turned up, they have a shot. Again, another "if".

Tubbs in or out tonight? Any update on her?

Ryle by 3. They missed key shots that rolled out of the basket at least 5 times against Highlands, could have been a different game. to me, they are hungry and have something to prove.

I do have to say, this one puzzles me a little. Ryle lost by 25 to HHS. It was never really close.

1st 16-4 HHS

half 31-22 HHS

3rd 48-32

final 65-40

It was more about the momentum before the half, it could have been easily tied is what I meant.. maybe changing the outcome, you know how that goes. Just seemed Ryle had a lot of shots not fall their way. Don't know the stats on rebounds, but it seemed they had a 2 or 3 to 1 advantage with no points to show. HHS definitely had the momentum in the second half. Remember no points were scored in the first 5 min of the game. Very sloppy by both teams.

Besides, didn't I say we were going to win by 3 against Holmes with 54 seconds left? But then "jinx" happened. I'll keep my mouth shut until its over. :)

I could be wrong, but this should be a very good game. Holmes is certainly favored, however, I think Ryle can be competitive and keep it close.
