Inside the 8th Region 1-25-15

Featured Replies

All - a short write-up this week.

Who's HOT:

* Oldham County. The Colonels are winning games, and winning them convincingly. After getting upset by North Oldham, the Colonels have won four games by an average of 26 points, including a 25 point rout of Collins.

* Owen County. The Rebels just keep winning, having won 9 straight. They are the last remaining team that is undefeated against 8th region competition (12-0).

* Michael Dunaway, Trimble County. Michael has averaged 18 ppg over the last 8 contests, while also averaging over 13 rebounds. Dunaway has six games during that stretch where he had a double-double.

* The Oldham County Bench - The Colonels keep bringing guys off the bench who can score. The latest is sophomore Ismail Jones, who's blossomed of late. During the Colonels' current four game winning streak, four different players have been the leading scorer, and twice the leading scorer was a sub. Over the last four games (wins over Harrison Co, Collins, Spencer Co, and Henry County), the Colonel bench has scored 148 of Oldham's 277 points (53.4%!).

* Carson Williams, Owen County - Yeah, he just stays on this list. The Rebels haven't posted their stats from the past two games....but before then, he had six straight double-double games with highs of 32 points and 20 rebounds.....(though not in the same game!)

* Eminence Warriors - Eminence has won 6 of their last 7 games. They are 3-3 in District 31 games this year, including a 3-0 streak against Gallatin, Henry, and Carroll that may have stamped them as the favorite to reach the 8th Region tournament as one of the 31st district representatives.

This week's Top 10 (my projection if the Region Tourney were held TODAY:

#1 Oldham County 17-4, 8-1 region 8 The loss to the North Oldham Mustangs a little over a week ago cost the Colonels the #1 seed in the 29th District tournament, and Oldham County is playing like an angry team. They've won four in a row, and demolished last week's #2 region team, the Collins Titans, by 25. As noted above, the bench is providing a lot of the offense - including 53.4% of the points over the four game stretch.

2. Collins 14-6, 7-1 region 8 Thought about moving them down after their 68-43 loss to Oldham, but the Titans bounced back with two impressive wins over Bullitt East and Simon Kenton.

3. Owen County 18-2, 12-0 Rebels heading into a brutal stretch against Grant County, Simon Kenton, and Collins. Season ender on 2/19/15 vs. Oldham looking better every minute.

4. Simon Kenton 12-8, 5-2 The Pioneers are teetering a bit. They defeated Grant County, but lost to Collins by 7 without Matt Mullins. Since a good showing in the Best in Hoops Classic, SK is just 6-5. A big Region 9 challenge this week: Boone County, Dixie Heights, and Holmes all loom this week, three teams with a combined record of 42-17.

5. Shelby County 13-5, 3-3 region 8 Shelby, still missing some pieces, turned away North Oldham by 11 last week. The Rockets are putting it together - with or without Manica - and they've now won 7 of 9.

6. North Oldham 12-10, 5-1The Mustangs came off the big win over Oldham and almost immediately dropped three straight.

7. Grant County 10-9, 2-4 Braves hope to get healthy soon; they've dropped 5 of 7.

8. Anderson County 9-7, 1-3

9. Walton-Verona, 11-9 , 5-3

10. Spencer Co., 9-11, 2-2 The Bears move into the poll by by virtue of their play versus Trimble.

I saw where Carson Williams posted a triple-double on Saturday night in a road win at Woodford County. 19 points, 16 rebounds, 10 blocks, to go along with 4 assists.

He's an amazing player. And just a junior....

All - I apologize for the short write-up this week. It was past midnight - I posted the top 10 after 1 am - and I was - literally - falling asleep over my keyboard... :meh:

Shelby has Manica back playing some minutes. Not sure if he will matter or not.

N. Oldham with performance at Shelby put them back in place after win over Oldham.

Very impressed with Collins back to back performance last week. Simon Kenton was played on the Henry. Co. Court.
