I know Allie Mills from Walton had a big game. Seems she was making plays on both ends. Hit a huge three at the end of the third quarter to cut Highlands 9 point lead to 6. Ison hit a deep three to open the fourth to cut it to 3.

 

Lydia Graves from Highlands was the player of the game.

 

A very strong showing for the Bearcats with a great effort tonight. Even when they got down a couple of times, they made some plays and kept hang in around.

 

Congrats to the Bluebirds on the win. Good teams take others best shot and find a way to win.

Bearcats played some really good, consistent defense and HHS didn't shoot well again in this game. I think HHS was 4 for 20 from behind the arc and 16 or 38 shooting for the game. I'm sure the HHS girls are glad this day is over. Just never got in rhythm all day. Everything was out of sync and nothing flowed for them today. They just didn't attack like normal all day. I guess that could have a little to do with the rotation being off a little (missing players), but I just don't buy that.

 

Walton is always prepared and is coached very well. Mills had the big game today, but Ison is a Beast! (I mean that in the most girly way!). She is like the football team that has that special running back, that then crosses over and plays Middle Linebacker and then kicks off, kicks the extra points and punts. Heck, I think she washed the team uniforms at halftime. Just a kid that is strong and has a great understanding of the game. Mills has been a solid player for a long time and always a threat to score. WV had a nice game plan and was able to stick to it with the Birds not hitting shots.

I heard the Ison girl is working on her CDL, and taking bus driving lessons from a team mates dad. She looks to start driving the bus on all the road games. :lol2:

Agreed! I was waiting for one of them on either side to jump up and say "you sunk my battleship!"

Having my coffee, thinking more about this game, I can't help but to comment again on Allie Mills. Having a bit of a slow start, going through a fairly extended early season slump, it was awesome to see her get her confidence back in a huge way the last couple of games. The girl was about a 16-17 ppg player last season and so far this year, she has been way under that mark. You knew at some point things were going to break for her! With her getting back to form, like she was last night, Walton Verona is a much more consistent, multi threat, and dangerous team.

Could the biggest issue for Highlands be that there last game prior to this tourney was on December 20 against Bellevue? That means they did not play a game of any type for 9 days. You can only practice so much.

It's possible for sure. With exams that week, the girls appreciated the time off, but it may have made them a little rusty.
