Inside the 6th Region (12-15-14)

Featured Replies

Weekly Top 10

1) Doss

Doss continues to be in the top spot after two victories against 6th region Western HS by 13 and a 26 point win over 7th region Atherton. Dujuanta Weaver came down to earth after dropping 30 on PRP last week, but continues to lead his team. The depth of this team will make it hard for most teams to stop any particular player in hopes of an upset. Doss opens with Newport Central Catholic in the King of the Bluegrass this weekend so this will be a great opportunity to see just how good Doss really is.

2) PRP

PRP only had a single game this past week which was a 101-82 win over Jeffersontown who has only one win on the season. But they have a tough Tuesday game against Seneca and then play in the Holiday event held at Seneca this weekend. That event is the Wes Unseld Invitational and will also provide some good competition for the Panthers who are now 3-1 on the season while remaining #2 in the 6th region rankings.

3) Bullitt East

Bullitt East remains at 3rd, but the loss this past week to Butler by 4 points leaves your head scratching. Butler followed that upset with a loss to Moore by 16. This was the same Moore that Bullitt East beat, although they struggled in doing so. With the loss this week they remain at #3, but the separation between the top 2 and Bullitt East is beginning to show. They had easy games this past week to bounce back from the Butler loss, but the competition is much tougher as they enter the KOB and play Holmes in a first round match-up this weekend.

4) Fern Creek

Fern Creek only went 2-2 this past week after opening the season 2-0, but the losses were to Seneca and Hopkinsville in away games by a total of 3 points. Seneca won by 1 over Fern Creek and has only lost to Ballard & Manual so they appear to be toward the top of the 6th region. Hopkinsville is ranked #5 in the state and the game was decided on a put-back dunk with 1.5 seconds remaining, 88-86. If the young Fern Creek team can learn from their late game losses, this could be a team to watch as a possible challenger in the 6th region.

5) Fairdale

Fairdale is now 3-1 with the lone loss to 7th region Waggner. The did get a victory over Western by 8 on their home court which was a good win for the Bulldogs. They have yet to be tested with the stronger teams in the region and face a Bullitt Central team that is 3-3 on the season in their next game.

6) DeSales

DeSales has now won 4 in a row after their opening night loss to Oldham County. That loss is now looking to be a respectable loss as Oldham is the consensus top team in the 9th region. However the wins from last week over rivals Iroquois & Holy Cross are not as impressive given the struggles of both of those teams.

7) Western

Despite a loss to Fairdale to drop to 2-2 and 0-2 last week, the other loss was a respectable 13 point loss at Doss, the #1 team in the region. The next game for the Warriors is the Twins Lake Classic in Clinton County where they play Perry County Central on Saturday after opening with Clinton County and then Elliott County.

8) North Bullitt

North Bullitt had a good week going 3-0 so they are being rewarded with the solid play from victories over Bullitt Central, South Oldham, and Marion County. With games against Iroquois and Holy Cross, North Bullitt has a chance to continue winning and staying in the Top 10 poll. In tourney play this weekend they have another game against South Oldham.

9) Butler

On the upset over Bullitt East they are being placed in the 9th spot, but after that great win they followed with a loss to Moore who is not ranked in the Top 10 of the region. Butler went 1-1 on the week, but they sport a 2-3 overall won/loss record.

10) Bullitt Central

Bullitt Central went 2-1 for the week only losing to rival North Bullitt. They are now 3-3 on the season and could solidify their Top 10 ranking with games against Fairdale and Beth Haven of the 6th region this week.

TOP PLAYER- Richard Gaines

Without a doubt, Richard Gaines is being recognized as the best player in week #2 of the season from the 6th region. After 4 games Richard is averaging 29.8 points per game and has already scored 45 points from the free throw line. He also has 45 rebounds on the season averaging 11.3 rebounds per game. Richard continues to prove he could very well be the top player in the region and without a doubt is the most valuable player for his team.

Gaines is a heck of an Athlete. He has a nice reverse dunk on a player in the Jtown game. Not sure where he stands on offers but he can be a valuable asset at the next level.

Nice job, GohardITP. Thanks.

Regarding Butler vs Bullitt East Sharpe & Farris both played sick. Sharpe didn't start due to missing practice the day before the game & only scored 10 points well below his average of 18.4. Bacon didn't start for other reasons. so things started off badly. To their credit, Butler had a couple of nice players and looked better than expected.

Is everyone set to be healthy as they head into the KOB this weekend?

Yes & with finals this week they don't play so they should be well prepared.

Are you sure they'll all be back? I'd heard 2 regular players were missing their last game with concussions. Is that actually true? Will they be back? Haven't seen B East yet this year but they're generally fun to watch. Looking forward to King of the Bluegrass.

Jared Osbourne was was out the last game with a concussion but I believe he will be back for KOB.
