12th Region Notebook week 1

It was a great start to the 2014-15 high school basketball season for the 12th Region with multiple teams recording impressive victories over good out of region competition. None made more of a statement as to the quality of teams in this years 12th region than Southwestern’s convincing win over 14th Region power and state ranked #19 Perry County Central 99-75. With that win the Warriors have started the season 2-0 and are making their declaration as to why they believe they are the best team in the 12th Region.

Other notes:

-Southwestern shot 60% (40-67) from the field and 60% (9-15) from 3 point range in the win over Perry County Central. Freshman Steven Fitzgerald recorded a double double with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

-Lincoln County starts the season 3-0 with two impressive wins over the 11th Region’s Lafayette 65-52 and 1st Region’s McCracken County 63-46. Lincoln County’s Timmy Taylor was player of the game at the Marshall County Hoopfest vs McCracken County.

-Jacob Conway with 27 points and 10 rebounds and Timmy Taylor added 13 points and 12 assists in Lincoln County’s win over Rockcastle County. Jacob Conway also had 25 points vs. Lafayette. Conway is averaging a double double, 26 points and 11 rebounds, through the first week of the season.

-Brooks Ely was named player of the game in the Bart Rison Classic after West Jessamine’s 54-52 win over Montgomery County.

-Danville won the Berea Tip-Off Classic and beat Class A foe Somerset 68-61. Cody Wooldridge scored 26 points vs. Somerset and is averaging 23 points per game thus far this season.

-Hayden Smith led East Jessamine with 20 points in their 68-65 loss to Henry Clay. Although it was a loss it was still an impressive showing by a 12th region team.

-Jeremiah Bell had 24 points and 8 rebounds in Boyle County’s win over Spencer County. Hagen Tyler added 23 points and 5 rebounds. They are averaging 20.5 and 20 points per game respectively thus far this season.

-Sophomore Jacob Smith led the Rebels with 25 points and sophomore Collin Miller and Breece Hayes each had 19 apiece in the opening overtime victory over Marion County. Nice showing by the sophomore class at Casey County.

-The 12th Region went 18-11 vs out of conference foes.

-Congratulations to the Pulaski County Maroons 5A Football State Champions. Time to get the high tops out of the closet now that the hardware is in the trophy case.

Great job SHS Future. Very good breakdown of the 12th region. Hope it continues thru the season. I keep saying it, top to bottom I would put the 12th region up against ANY other region in the state.

Three good games on my radar tonight:

Wayne County at Lincoln County

West Jessamine at Danville

Boyle County at East Jessamine

I would love to be able to travel to Lincoln tonight to see the match-up with Wayne Co. Should be a great game! I'm feeling the Patriots may end the Cardinals 12th Region winning streak.

Great job SHS Future, we need to see and hear thing like this. Like BC23 said, hope you keep it coming all year and I would agree with the Lincoln vs Wayne game tonight.
