thsrocks
Jason Frakes Courier Journal Lavell Boyd out at Seneca Hoping to move to the college level, LaVell Boyd announced Monday that he has stepped down after three seasons as the head football coach at Seneca High School. Boyd said he was asked to reapply for the position after posting a 10-23 record in three seasons. The Redhawks finished 5-6 this season, falling to Fern Creek 16-13 in the first round of the Class 6-A playoffs. "For me, (reapplying) is not something I'm interested in doing," Boyd said. "It's time to move forward. It's been a fun few years at Seneca with the kids and trying to build the program." Boyd took the Seneca job after a successful four-year run from 2008-11 at Western, where he led the Warriors to a 26-24 record and their first-ever regional championship in 2010. Boyd, 38, said he will pursue a position as a receivers coach on the NCAA Division I and II levels. Boyd played wide receiver at the University of Louisville and in the NFL. "It may be a matter of relocating to a different state," Boyd said. "It's just something I need to do." Seneca is one of three Louisville-area schools accepting applications for a new head coach, joining Jeffersontown and Moore. Dan Leasor already has announced he's stepping down as Bullitt Central's coach, but the school has not yet posted the position, according to athletic director Michael Gossett. thsrocks
I am unclear on what the principal's expectations are for the Redhawks football program. Boyd is an excellent role model and coach. This is not a good way to start heading into the new district alignment for 2015!
LawDawg807
Sounds like the principal asked for him to return and he is leaving on his own terms, which is what any coach would ultimately want. I think Boyd is a heck of a coach, especially the product he put on the field while he was at Western (he had some tough defenses). I wish Coach Boyd all the best. I think someone on twitter said it best, two openings in the 6a District 4 is not a coincidence.

JIM SEYMOUR # 85
Heard some grumblings earlier in the year. Not surprised. Agee with prior poster - "re-apply" - different than "return"
