ATLCat Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Pirates score on every possession and get a running clock in the 3rd.
Watusi Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Belfry is beginning to look like a Belfry playoff team. It is good to see everyone healthy and gaining reps together. Unofficial stats. BELFRY Hatfield 12 carries, 162 yards, 2TD Taylor 7 carries, 95 yards, TD Willis 5 carries, 62 yards, 2TD 39 carries, 418 rushing LC Kiser 12/23 167 yards, 2 TD, INT 12 carries, 39 yards (leading rusher) Schaeffer 4 rec, 63 yds TD Dalton 4 rec, 79 yds TD 230 Total Yards -
Watusi Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 First, kudos to Belfry's big offensive line, who really dominated and doesn't get the recognition they deserve. These guys controlled the game and were the difference. Behind them the Pirate backfield was very efficient, taking care of the ball with no turnovers and averaging nearly 11 yards per carry. Austin "El Toro" Hatfield was a man tonight and Lawrence just had no answer for him. I have really enjoyed watching that young man play. He is one tough nut. Keaton Taylor is another Senior who has been Mr Gadget for Belfry and a kid who just goes out there every week and does whatever they ask of him. Nice job running the offense again, Keaton, as usual. Watching that game last night, as Belfry controlled the game on both sides of the ball and had a running clock in the 3rd quarter it was hard to believe that just a few weeks ago Belfry led Lawrence 21-20 after 3 quarters in their first meeting.
newarkcatholicfan Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 As badly as I wanted Lawrence County to win this, I was sure Belfry would. I again hope to see Belfry win another state title.

I know how much you like Lawrence, NCF. They are a good football team. The coaching staff is building a good thing there and they are well coached and fundamentally sound. Kiser is a dual thread QB who really stretches you out. Lambert, Dalton and Schaeffer are really great receivers and they have a solid backfield with #3 (name?) and Mosley. I think the offense is ahead of the defense. Point is they are improving and building. I hope they keep working hard and get back to the level they once were. I remember prior to 2003 when the Dawgs used to kick Belfry's butts every year and they were a force to be reckoned with.
newarkcatholicfan Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 My first L.C. game was against Whitesburg in the playoffs, at L.C. I believe it was the last season for Whitesburg.
Watusi Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I think Coach Saylor was at Whitesburg then and they had some pretty good teams.
ATLCat Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 This was the first time Belfry had all their offensive weapons together since Week 1 and the Pirates looked awesome. For the first time in a loooong time the timing was there and so was the emotion. Austin Hatfield set the time early by going all Larry Csonka and it was infectious. Having Catron back cannot be understated. He is probably 4th in the carry hierarchy but his role is much greater. He brings a physicality Belfry needed and is also an emotional spark plug. His blocking is superb. The Defense wasn't championship caliber but it wasn't bad. LC has some of the better skill players in 3A and maintain a good balance. Overall "good" but not "great" by Belfry. Penalties still a big problem as Belfry wiped out two big runs and extended two LC drives. Really hoping Woolum is able to return if Belfry advances to Finals. Pirates recruited two soccer players from the school to do place kicking and they have done a good job but aren't near the threat Woolum is with his leg.
