Lloyd took the opening kickoff and just rammed it down the Breds throat, but the Breds hung tough and forced the Juggs to kick a 24 yd FG after having it 1st and goal. NewCath then went 3 & out. Then the Juggs again "stuck it to" the Breds with another long, time consuming drive and on the 1st play of the 2nd quarter Molitor scrambles and "threads the needle" for a 13 yd TD pass. However, that would be the last time the Juggs would make any kind of a serious threat. The NewCath defense came to life as well as the offense, as the Breds would score 39 unanswered points. The Juggs would get a TD run with 50 "ticks" on the clock against the Breds 2nd team D.

NewCath would get on the board on a 53 yd TD run from Jr. John "hair-ball" Harris. Later in the 2nd stanza, So. QB Patrick Henschen throws a one yard pass to Nate Enslen who got a couple nice blocks and then turned on the wheels and go's 47 yards to "paydirt" for the score. With under 5:00 remaining in the half the Breds are saddled with 4th and 12 from their own 40, when Erik Anderson fakes the punt and scampers 30 yards for the 1st down. Then NewCath pulls off a perfectly disguised screen pass, as Henschen hits Enslen and it was "all she wrote", as he goes 35 yds for the score. NewCath goes into the break up 19-10.

3rd quarter, it was all the law firm of Henschen, Smith, & Enslen, as they march the Breds down field. On 3rd and goal from the 10 Henschen "floats" one over the defender right into the hands of Nate Enslen for the score. With 45 seconds remaining in the 3rd, Jake Smith rumbles in from a yard out for the score and the Breds increase the margin to 33-10. The Breds would get their final score of the night on a 1 yd run from Smith with under 5 to play.

A few other notes:

Kobe Tallon with a nice game on "D"

Peyton Davis with a nice 35 yard INT return.

John Harris had a hell of a game on both sides of the ball, very nice runs tonight. :thumb:

So. Job Freppon with 3 really nice tackles on the Lloyd kickoff returners....!!!

No turnovers tonight by the Breds.

The Breds defense in the 1st quarter was "poppy", but to their credit they definitely turned it around after that, great effort guys.

Offensive line with some very nice blocking tonight. :thumb:

The penalty situation is still a HUGE issue with this team, I just don't get it.

NewCath blows out Lloyd, faces rival Newport next

The Newport Central Catholic football team turned back an early upset bid and reasserted its dominance over Lloyd on Friday with a 39-17 victory in a Class 2A second-round playoff game at Newport Stadium.

"We had to be on our toes the whole night, and we got a win," said NewCath running back Jacob Smith, who continued moving up on the NewCath all-time rushing list.

NewCath, winner of six of seven games following an 0-4 start against big-school teams, has a winning record for the first time all season. The Thoroughbreds improved to 6-5. They beat Lloyd (8-3) for the 18th time in a row, extending a 23-year unbeaten streak.

NewCath feasted on turnovers and won the regular-season meeting, 28-0. The Juggernauts had just one turnover in the rematch, on an interception by Peyton Davis. Conspiring against them was a monster defensive effort turned in by NewCath linebacker Kobe Tallon and the Thoroughbreds' long-ball offense.
