A 16 yr old freshman and 17 yr old sophomores? :ohbrother:

 

As odd as it sounds, if a kid has a fall birthday they are soon turning 6 as they enter kindergarten. Fast forward 9 years for Freshmen or 10 years for sophomores. That puts any freshmen with a fall birthday at 15 or any sophomore at 16 this time of the year. When you add in a single year of repeating a grade that means 16 year old freshmen & 17 year old sophomores. I promise you that there is a widespread history of the hold back theory helping athletes that has been in practice for a long time. I know it happens in some communities more than others as just an accepted practice. My point is that Bayley is no different than a significant portion of KHSAA athletes.

You are right, holding kids back in this area is very common. Two of my kids graduated at 17, and they were 1 1/2 - 2 yrs. younger than a lot of the athletes in their grade.

Where are those athletes now? Just curious....any major colleges? I just dont get it. They say many are held back for some maturity reasons but if the majority of these kids are athletes then I call Bull.
