With the season just two weeks away, who are some of the early "darkhorses" who could make a run and pull a couple upsets? (not win the region but knock off a favorite or two during the regular season)

I think in the 33rd Ryle is the definitely the favorite. I think St. Henry with Kuebbing, Shanks, and Grieme they have a good solid core with most of there players from last season returning and they could beat some people. Also Boone County whenever Andy Dietz is on the mound they can beat anyone in the region. They return the 2-4 hitters as well in 2nd baseman Pat Rathert, catcher Corey Farris, and then Dietz. They will be lacking depth and experience on the mound because they lost there 3 guys in the rotation from last season and then late season Closer Stoller. But with Andy on the mound they can beat just about anyone if they can score a few runs.

Agreed Boone can beat anyone with Dietz on the mound, but without him they're a very average team. Holmes has beaten them the past two seasons.

Boone can surprise some teams though with Dietz...only question is will their offense be good enough to give him some support.

Suprise team of the 9th Region has to be Conner

Who all does Conner return? I know they return the three good underclassmen pitchers right? Harkins, Wigger, and ??? (name escapes me right now)

Harkins, Eder, Taylor, and Wigger all should be big contributors to this team.

Don't know if it will be a surprise or not but N.C.C. should have a good year. Harris should be one of the best LHP in the region.

I know J.V. to Varsity is a big jump, but they had a very strong J.V. team last year and alot their younger guys ended up getting some Varsity playing time after the mid-point of the season.

Eder was the one who I couldnt think of...Imo those three will carry the majority of the load...taylor is decent but idk if he'll have what it takes to beat some of the better teams in the ninth...still a solid rotation for the cougars though

Good point fballstud about Boone's offense. They will be fine 2-4 but you could also say the same thing about any team in the region. The key to the Rebels offense putting up runs is to manufacture them and hopefully get the clutch hits when needed. They have the talent but most of the guys this year will be yound and relied upon to step up. Hopefully my Rebels can get some production from there young guys and be capable of winning some ball games not just when Dietz is on the hill.
