Girls 9th Region Championship Draw

Featured Replies

With district championship games set, any predictions on who comes out of the 9th region? Does NDA start its run towards state again? Any of the other teams capable of knocking NDA?? Highlands? NCC? St. Henry? Dixie? Ryle? Boone?

Anybody capable of being a regional party crasher? (I bet NDA is happy Campbell isn't in this mix:laugh:)

:dancingpa

I think Ryle and Highlands have the best chance to knock off NDA. It will be a hard road to knock them off though. I think that Campbell County lost increased the fire in them. Ryle allows the least amount of goals in NKY which says a lot for their defense and keeper. Tough to pull out a win if you can not score. Highlands has shown they can hang with NDA, losing in the final minute of their last meeting. Highlands will have to find ways to score though. NDA is the favorite but possible upsets by both Ryle and Highlands. Dark horse for me would be St.Henry or NCC. Good luck to all the teams in the Regionals. Go Birds!

Kings I have to ask why would you consider Highlands to be one of 2 with best chance yet NCC would be a dark horse ? Didn't NCC beat highlands in regular season and game this week was a scoreless game for 90 minutes then Highlands wins on pks. So you then make the assertion Highlands has a better shot at the upset of NDA ? Makes zero sense. Ryle has best shot at pulling it off as they are second best team in nky by a pretty good margin in my book. Highlands and NCC are next in line but I wouldn't favor either. My knock on highlands is they like to gamble and bring more defenders to support offense which is a big risk vs NDA . NCC is just too young to be ready for the tournament tested NDA squad that finds another level it seems at this time of year.

Zap, please explain to me what makes no sense??? The fact is, NCC and NDA are two different teams. Not sure what the two games Highlands played against NCC have to do with the game against NDA. Different styles of play and its a rival. NCC vs HHS is always going to be a tight game. I considered HHS to be one of the 2 favorites because that was my opinion, no knock on NCC. That is what I am entitled too, my opinion. I am not replying to you to call out your opinion about your choices am I?

Pethaps the fact that Highlands played NDA even for 88 minutes and NCC got thrashed by NDA weighed into Kings opinion.

It will be an interesting region for sure. I would love an upset and show the rest of Kentucky there is more than NDA. Every team will bring their A-game for regions. Pressure and tensions will be high. It will come down to who wants it more and how a team handles stress.

How did Ryle do against NDA in regular season? I saw the 2-0 loss....but was it a good game? Not very familiar with this years team. The highlands and NDA game was a great one to watch. Saw that Ryle and Highlands tied. Who knows what will happen in the region!!!

You are 100% right on the type of D Highlands plays and it does lead to some easy goals. It happened a lot in early season against very good teams. It has improved some but as you saw last night they still play aggressive up front and leave defenders in one on one situations with no back up help if they make a mistake, NCC was not able to take advantage of a couple last night. Can't do that against teams like ND, LC, Assumption, Boyle, or they make you pay.

I too think HHS matches up best against ND. I think Ryle depends too much on one offensive player. NCC is the team I think matches up best after HHS, but their youth might hurt them against ND. Would love to see HHS/NCC rematch.

Isn't that what the regular season was for? Everyone had their shot in the 9th and the results were there's ND, and then the rest. Sustained success at a high level is something to admire, not hate on.

That is what post season is for too! ND has shown the are beatable and now the other teams have to step it up if they want to knock them off. I think most do admire the success ND has had.

Not hating on NDA at all. Other area programs wish for their recent success. But, upsets are entertaining. You cant tell me you don't cheer for the Cinderella to beat the number 1 or 2 seed in college basketball during March Madness. Its why the games are played!!!! Anything can happen. Teams like Ryle, Dixie, Boone.....would love to feel what its like to have the success of NDA. I will support whatever team makes it out of this region as it represents the level of play in this area.

To use your example, since UK is often a #1 or #2 seed, and often opens the tourney with College of Charleston or the like, I can wholeheartedly tell you that I (and I'm guessing many others) are NOT cheering for Cinderella.

Most people I know root for specific teams, not random upsets to make things "interesting". Most are more than satisfied when the favorite, UK for example, wins and advances in said tournament.

I have not seen many non UK fans that are happy when they advance!!!

As long as it isn't the team I support, then I like seeing upsets happen. When my team is knocked out, its fun to see a good competition.

Wow, I have watched a ton of NCAA games with hundreds of different people over the years and they ALL root for and love to see the underdog win...unless it's their team on the losing side. You can't pick a team that is loved in the local area and say "see, you don't like to see KY lose" and blanket a statement how no one likes upsets.
