I don't see how a cut can legally happen it the team is in shotgun. The ball "immediately" leaves the free blocking zone.

The FBZ (free blocking zone) is 3 yds on either side of the LOS. All shotgun teams are at least 4 yds deep so for a cut to be legal in shotgun the cut would have to occur before the QB even caught the snap. Not possible.

 

Every ref you talk to will have a different interpretation of the rule. I say either eliminate cut blocking altogether or legalize it.

I've never seen a penalty called on an immediate cut block from the shot gun.

Well if you are talking to the refs they will tell you that the state's interpretation of the rule is that it must be immediate and that is how they are instructed to call it.
