Has anyone attempted to start a select ball program for the Campbell County area? Even though I'm partial to Campbell County High, I think it would help all schools in area. Although, Highlands is on the right track, and Bishop Brossart is doing well. I just think it would be nice, instead of driving towards Boone County or up into Ohio.

I don't know a thing about select ball. That sounds like a big job though to start up a program.

We have had a lot of discussions, but it takes a lot of work to get it off the ground. Once it's up and running, it requires maintenance. But getting off the ground is the tough part. I know all the HS coaches in Camp Co would support it tremendously, but they (we) do not have time to put it together. I would be excited to meet and discuss with anyone that could lead a charge. It's way past due! I ran an AAU organization with up to 14 teams at one time, so I think I can bring some thoughts to the table, just no time to implement them!

The struggle is going to be getting in to the better tournaments as a new unknown team. You really need to align yourself with an organization for namesake that has a solid reputation going in or you will find yourself only getting accepted into the money generating tournaments. You want the bang for your buck of playing solid competition and getting quality exposure on a larger than high school ball stage. Otherwise, your wasting your time, energy and money.

Baby steps! We aren't all D1 (LOL)! I think these thoughts are an extension of what a lot of folks are talking about. Starting something that provides a different level of opportunity for getting kids interested and challenged more than the local rec leagues. May not be a feeder for colleges, but could be some day. All the top orgs started somewhere! But I think people would like to provide the opportunity to play more local events for the younger aged kids. Then if it blossoms into something more, then it does. But It could also be a feeder program for other programs and for kids that are just interested in having a fun and being competitive in high school. I know the local high school coaches would love it!

I know their are some also on the Xplosion, out of Boone County. Their program is actually what got me to wonder why we don't have something in the Campbell County area. Of course, I'm not sure about were the NKY Bandits are based out of. When searching the net, it seemed most teams from what I could find were everywhere but CC. I've asked some people here, in CC, that I know who have daughters that play rec or high school, what they thought of select. The answer I keep getting is that it's either to expensive or girls from this area aren't interested in softball. The Campbell County Rec league seems to draw them in and if girls from around CC area regardless of school, are going somewhere to play select, I would assume it would be a good idea. Maybe someone in the near future with the time, and know how will do it. I wish I could, but I'm a parent just learning from my daughter.lol.

Anytime you play any select sport, it's going to be more costly than rec. However, some have been misled to think its not affordable. That's not really the case. You can find affordable options. You just have to find the situation that's right for you. If people really use the money as a reason, then I would question how serious they really are. You have to have a certain commitment level to move to select. Money is just one part of it. I disagree that this is not a softball area. I think there could be plenty of opportunities for girls in softball. The reason they migrate to the other sports is because its easy to. Those other sports have many established, successful orgs setup. We don't have that in CC or NKY. Yes the Xplosion has been around and trying again and the Bandits have been able to sustain for awhile, But I would say they still have problems keeping the good players in NKY. But at the end of the day, these two orgs still provide an alternative and that is a good thing for the kids.

If anyone can get something started and you need a home base for fields contact me. I am in Kenton Co but less than 10 minutes from Campbell Co HS and 15 from Brossart. Prob 25 minutes from the Northern schools. Highlands, Dayton, Bellevue, Newport, NCC, etc.

OK, so just reading up on this post. In NKY there are the Bandits with a team at every breakout 14u and under. NKY Explosion have multiple teams, NKY Stealers have a couple, NKY Khaos have a couple of teams and NKY Krushers have an 02 team (they turned away more kids due to not enough coaches). I have ties to the Krushers, the bigger problem that we found lacking of volunteers for coaching. If someone reads this posts and is looking for more NKY teams, I would believe that out of the 5 organizations listed above you could find a team or start one if coaching support was there.

Also, if your not wanting your daughter on a "travel team", Chris Schreiber is willing to put together a high school summer league. However, players need to inform their high school coach that they are interested. Plans are to have this league playing at Newport and NewCath home fields, as well as, Bartlett Field at the Newport Vets complex.
