No Zane Ross action in this one?

This was a tough way for Cooper to be handed their first loss of the season, they did not get off to a good start and this led to the first goal that Scott scored. Schneider had a nice finish off a feed from Morgan, unfortunately, the whole play was started by a bad touch by a Cooper player. The second goal came off of a free kick that was taken from well over midfield with only about 10 minutes left, from where I was sitting, it appeared that Williams had some trouble with the sun and possibly the Scott player who was crashing the goal.... the ball deflected off of the top of his hands and into the goal. As expected, this took a lot out of the Cooper players but they did continue to get shots on goal down the stretch, they were just not able to connect. On several instances, Snow was able to break free for shots in the second half but I thought the difference in the outcome was the play of Seay in goal... well, besides the ref... I thought that he had several great saves in the second half when Cooper was attacking. I am not sure how many saves he will be credited with but I am guessing it is more than 10 and I feel that he had at least half a dozen really nice ones. I also thought that Morgan had a nice match for Scott, he does not seem to get as much attention as others but I feel that he is a very big part of their success.

 

By in large, the game was played fairly clean, physical... but clean, the only issue I had was with how inconsistent the Head Ref was today. There were several instances in which there was a hard foul but he chose to let play continue, the problem is, he would call a foul a couple minutes later when much less contact was involved. There could have easily been 3 PK's awarded to Cooper, they received none. There was actually a foul called when Snow was tackled in the box but they were awarded a free kick just outside the box. This call was pretty bad, he was going to his left and was tackled from the goal side of his body, knocking him away from the goal as he went down, the ref ran over and marked the foul outside of the box although Snow was still laying a couple steps inside of the box. Just a few minutes later, Workman was pushed down from behind as he approached the six, as luck would have it, the ball went off of Scott so Cooper at least got a corner for their efforts. :sarcastic: A little later in the match, Treadway was awarded a PK on a play in which there was contact between him, a fullback and the goalie. Although the goalie got to the ball first, and clearly had controlled it... I guess repeated flopping trumps a good play by the goalie.

Frankly this assessment if the game is comical. That foul you are complaining about did happen outside the box. The player fell in the box and barely at that. The ref also gave the Scott player a good card for this being a tactical foul.

 

The PK that was called for Treadway was also legit. The keeper may have got the ball but the defender blindsided Treadway and crushed him. Also, how manu flops did you actually see? And if so I think he only got 2 fouls called for him the whole match.

 

Overall this was a good example of what big buy soccer looks like. People need to realize that just because there is contact doesn't make it a foul.

Here's the question..........penalties for red cards increase as the number of cards increase for the players.......

 

Are there penalties for the coaches if a team reaches a certain number of reds? I can see the arguments against (inconsistent refs, etc) but can also see the need for it.........

How many red cards does a team have to get before the athletic director figures out there is no discipline coming from the staff? There is no room for this behavior in high school athletics. Hey coach, get control of your team!!!!!!

 

They could be such a good team, to bad the staff has no control.

I will be very surprised to hear about anything being done in terms of the Red Cards/behavior, it is if they feel they are receiving these unjustly. It is amazing to me that you can watch a player deliberately kick another player in the head and have both the parents, and coach, complaining about him being issued a Red Card. The play happened fairly early in the first half and during the break their coach was still voicing his displeasure with the call that the AR made on the play. I say AR, because if it was not for him, I do not feel that any call would have been made by the CR. When the play first happened he had called for play to continue and awarded Cooper the throw in, it was not until the AR repeatedly waived his flag and motioned for the CR to come over, that the card was actually given.

What? The ref had blown the whistle for the foul. The kick was after the play had been blown dead. He just talked with the AR to confirm what had happened. You could hear them talking about it from the stands.

 

Don't get me wrong, I think the guy could have been closer but this was not a slouch red we are talking about here. This was the same guy that did Ryle v Cooper Boone v Ryle and also teaches the ussf courses.

Did not say he pointed to his patch, guess you mean pocket.... and yes, I did see this. When he was touching his pocket he was turned back to the center part of the field, where the CR was, he was not looking directly forward at this time and since I was on his left it made it very easy to see what he was doing.

 

I do not know what the signal is from an AR to call for a red, I will ask my wife, she knows ASL. As you mentioned earlier, the CR went over to the AR, I believe this was when he advised the CR that he should issue a Red Card.

 

I would be in favor of the refs using ASL, it would have sped up the match today and allowed us to see more of the CCH/Summit match.
