The Shamrocks (3-2) travel to Lawrence Central High School to face the Cathedral Irish (1-3) outside Indianapolis this Friday evening. The kickoff set for 7:30PM. The Irish fell to the Cincinnati St. Xavier Bombers (3-1) 27-0 on September 19. Trinity defeated the Cocoa (FL) Tigers 35-32 in St. Matthews on the same evening.

The Cathedral Irish have won 4 consecutive state titles. Their top returning offensive weapon is running back is Caleb Cross (SR 6' 2"). The Irish also feature top returning offfensive lineman Jared Thomas (SR 6' 4"). In last week’s game in Lucas Oil Stadium, Cathedral trailed early as the Bombers recovered a fumble on the game’s first play from scrimmage. Three plays later, St. Xavier led and 7-0. That remained the score with less than 90 seconds in the third quarter. Irish QB Max Bortenschlage (JR 6'4") threw a pick six. The Bombers put three touchdowns on the board in less than 5 minutes and the Cathedral never threatened the balance of the fourth quarter. Despite losses to Ben Davis (IN), Warren Central (IN), and St. Xavier (OH), Cathedral is still considered one of the top 5A teams in Indiana.

Trinity’s game with Cocoa was played before an estimated crowd of 4,000. Trinity outgained the Tigers 384 yards to 337 yards. The Rocks outrushed Cocoa 238 to 176. The Rocks overcame two turnovers, 1 fumble and one interception. The officials flagged the Rocks four times for a total of forty yards. The Floridians were penalized 61 yards on seven penalties. For the game, Trinity’s offense controlled the ball for nearly 30 minutes. The Shamrocks held the Tigers to 102 yards of offense in the second half while overcoming the 26-14 halftime deficit.

Senior QB Ryan Young (6’ 185 lbs) directed the Shamrocks second half comeback. Young passed for 68 yards with three completions in seven attempts. Young added 26 yards rushing on 4 carries. Senior RB Donald Brooks (6’ 190 lbs) scored three second half rushing touchdowns and gained 199 yards on 34 carries. Brooks completed a 28-yard TD strike to Dalton Jones (JR 6’ 2” 180 lbs) in the first quarter. Sophomore QB Larry Harper III (5’8” 170 lbs) also completed a touchdown pass to Jones, covering 15 yards, in the first quarter. Harper was 7 of 12 for 50 yards. Junior Jalen Reed (5’ 10” 200 lbs) added 19 yards on 6 carries and added several key blocks. Junior wide receivers Rodjay Burns (6’ 2” 180 lbs) had 2 receptions for 19 yards & Santo Biddix Jr (5’ 9” 165 lbs) added 5 catches for 55 yards. Jones finished with the 2 catches for 23 yards. Brooks recorded one reception for 47 yards. Senior placekicker Andrew Deye (5’ 8” 160 lbs) added five successful PATs. Senior TE Andrew Delvisco (6' 3" 215 lbs) helped open several holes for the Trinity rushing attack throughout the game.

On the defensive side for Trinity versus Cocoa, Brentton Ervin (SR LB 5’ 11” 220 lbs) and Damon Lowe (JR LB 6’1 230 lbs), each made 5 tackles. Lowe was credited with the only sack for the Shamrocks. A dozen other defensive players made defensive stops for Trinity.

Trinity tidbits: Donald Brooks has rushed for 847 yards in five games this season.

Trinity will attempt to defeat Cathedral for the fourth consecutive year. The Rocks defeated the Irish 36-14 in 2011; 24-16 in 2012; and 35-30 last season.

The Rocks have scored in 224 consecutive games. The contest with Cathedral is the sixth consecutive out-of-state matchup this season. Trinity's all-time record is 567 wins-155 losses-7 ties.

Great senior leadership on the offensive side of the ball especially by Senior RB Donald Brooks and Senior QB Ryan Young. Erased a 2 touchdown deficit and controlled the game and the clock in the 2nd half. Stellar defense in the 2nd half lead by seniors King, Corolla, Ervin, Johnson and English as well.

Trinity moved up to #77 in the NationalHSfootball.com Top 100 poll, Male is ranked 70th.

Just a question here, does Cathedral not have a football stadium of their own? Just curious?

Cathedral does not have their own field. They play at Lawrence Central, another high school, I have forgotten which, and U of Indy. Every year they play one in season game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

I'm hearing a couple of defensive starters are injured for T. Confident though that others will step up and get the victory.

Saw Reisert in a boot on sidelines Friday night.

There are quite a few injuries and you'll probably see several guys going both ways. But they are prepared for this and have been practicing several players both ways since the before the season began, they'll be fine.
