In the only varsity football game played in the Commonwealth on Thursday night, the Ludlow Panthers came from behind to defeat the homestanding Brossart Mustangs 16-7 at Scott H.S..

 

The first quarter ended in a scoreless tie at zeros, but Brossart was on the march and 1st and Goal from the 4. QB Garrett Ahlbrand ran it in for a Brossart score, and Frankie Cetrulo added the extra point, giving the Mustangs a 7-0 lead with 11:11 to go in the second period.

 

The Mustangs played solid defense on all but one play in the second quarter, giving up a 62 yard touchdown run to Ludlow Sophomore QB Devlin Carter with only :58 to play in the half on 3rd and long. A two point conversion run by Carter gave the Panthers an 8-7 lead and momentum at halftime.

 

Brossart took possession on the Ludlow 40 to start the second half and marched the ball deep into the red zone before an intercepted pass in the endzone stopped the drive. From there it was a game of field position as neither team was able to muster much offense, and it wasn't until late in the fourth quarter when Ludlow took possession on the Brossart 30 that they were able to eventually score the insurance TD. With the two point conversion the Panthers improve to 3-2 with the 16-7 win.

 

The Mustangs played without the services of their senior quarterback, Clay Kramer, who is out for approximately the next four weeks with mono. Junior Craig Pfefferman and Senior Garrett Ahlbrand split the quarterbacking duties and preformed like seasoned veterans.

It is nice to see Brossart playing competitive football.

As I stated in the update thread, Ludlow wasn't impressive. Part of that was due to Brossart playing pretty well for a team that was nearly disbanded. The move back down to 1-A next year will do nothing but help that program.

 

Ludlow will still be in play for a home playoff game though as I believe every other team minus Beechwood is down. Beechwood could put 70+ on every other team in NKY 1A if they wished.
