Agreed.... But I still believe this was a small step forward for Monroe, granted their still miles behind where most thought they were starting at but at this point any forward motion is better than what they were doing. But couldn't agree more on the SW comment, at this point their head and shoulders above the Falcons.

Monroe showed a heart beat tonight. I do believe this was Barren County's state championship. They beat Glasgow last week which to them was like being at semi-state and beat Monroe tonight...

 

The refs about let this one get out of control! No love between these two programs that was for sure tonight!

 

Monroe will continue to grow this season and the coaching staff will hopefully find the right combination for this team. Coach Petett will fine tune them at the right time...he has that ability!

 

I will say that Monroe has to STOP turning the ball over in the red zone! Tonight they had multiple chances to put this one away and just plain failed to do so... Barren made them pay!!!

I also think it's fair to point out that Barren may not be as bad as the tradition dictates. I was at the Barren/Glasgow game and they look like a team now with a little confidence and swagger. We all know that in HS football confidence (lack of or lots of it) can make a HUGE difference in how a team CAN play. I'm just glad to see their coach seeing some fruits of his labors...that is a really tough place to be a football coach. This game could have gone either way and if it were played 10 times I bet the teams would split. Barren has kids that have been in the system now for several years and perhaps even culture is starting to move in the right direction. Monroe has the tradition, but lets face it, when you have some of the injuries they have had up front, it can shake a team. The oline works on continuity, its not really a plug and play type of unit like some other positions. Monroe has an outstanding staff and community and with the current Junior group, they will find a way down the stretch to return to form. I honestly believe that!

I feel Monroe will be just fine this season...I only worry about South warren in their district play. Even with a loss they will still get a first round home game with the WIN next Friday against Adair. The falcons play very well at home, our community shuts down for a home game and even grandma comes to the game!!!

 

8-2 or 2-8 doesn't matter to me as long as we can get that first round home playoff game. Monroe has the talent and staff to make a good playoff run if the stars align...but everyone has to hold their tongues just right!!!

The thing about finishing as runner-up for Monroe is that a second round trip to Paducah is even more of a haul for them than South Warren. That's a long, long road trip to have to take. It would have been very helpful to have had homefield throughout first three rounds rather than go on the road for that one.

 

Which, I guess the game still has to get played. It just doesn't look good for their chances. Barren County's one loss was to East and the Raiders got thwacked by South Warren.

I agree completely...we were hopeful for the season but reality and the injury bug has slapped us all in the face. Don't count the young falcons out just yet...they are getting their growing pains!

One thing I will say about Monroe you can never ever discount them even when they appear to be down John Petett has a way of getting the kids to peak and play their best ball at the right times. You can look at there history a few years back 2008 or 2009 the didn't win a district game but went very deep in the playoffs. If they get there kids back they can still cause trouble for teams.

From what I have seen of both teams Monroe is behind South right now. Some of it could be injury some of it over confidence and some of it talent. As I have said before I hope they get there kids back sure want to see my alma marter put their best foot forward.
