I may be getting a little head of myself but in my opinion Coach Wallace may be doing the best job of coaching this year as Commander in Chief at BGHS. Most Purple faithful thought BG would be 1-2 after week 3. His overall record at Purples is 207-34. If he (I know the kids are the ones that play the game) can get this team through season unscathed and get another ring it would have to be considered his best year.

Not taking for granted upcoming games but you have to admit being 3-0 right now is pretty remarkable.

The win over X was huge.

I agree Coach Wallace is doing a great job this year. Often times the best high school coaches do their best work with their lesser teams.

Love being a Purple Fan this year!

When Coach Wallace came over from Warren East it was a pretty controversial move to say the least. Coach Dan Haley, great man and former BGHS Coach, was an old school coach who ran the veer for forever and a day. So when Coach Wallace came in and installed a new, whiz-bang pro-style/spread you out and throw it kind of offense, it was shocking to see for some that had watched BG only throw it a couple handful of times all season and now we were doing that in one game.

But the faithful stuck with him (easy to do when you win more than you lose) and he has done a tremendous job. It is the system he has instilled that is so impressive to me. They platoon like several programs now, but besides H, T, and X I think they were one of the first teams doing it and it has really paid off. Alot of teams have good talent, but what do you do with that talent is what separates you from your competitors.

I agree with PNation that this is arguably Coach Wallace's best year. He has criticized in nice way (saying he has had to teach motivation to this group, where the last 3 years he did not) some of his better players this year and they have responded. As Guru said, it is with your lesser talented group that your coach is needed more.

I'm not sure about a couple games left on the schedule, but to have already beaten Lex Cath and X is really impressive. The streak rolls on.

Wallace was running the veer well into the mid-2000's.

I think he does what every great coach has done and that's adapt his offense to the talent he has around. It might seem pretty logical for a coach to do this, but several attempt to make square pegs in round holes and it doesn't pan out. The last few years he's had the personnel to sling the ball around the field and he's done just that. However, when he doesn't have a terrific QB-WR combo, he will utilize the run game much more and use the pass to keep teams honest.

Case in point while DL Moore and his older son Ryan were at BG, they passed the ball a lot more (286 attempts) than they did the year after when both players graduated (161 attempts).

More coaches in the area should learn from Wallace's ability to exploit the raw athletic ability of the kids, instead of trying to turn them into something they are not.

BJack, that is true. I guess I was trying to say that Wallace really brought passing offenses to BG as before it was pretty much all veer and a ground attack.

I like the last sentence the best, as you have to discipline yourself to identify the stregnths and weaknesses of every team as a new year in high school football brings a new challenge. Coach Wallace does this as well as anyone on the high school level.
