Another fine performance for Logan Williams, who posted his third shutout.

I will start with saying that this was the most physical game that Cooper has been in this season, it seemed to me that some of the boys at NCC thought that they would be able to "outmuscle" some of the boys from Cooper. When this did not happen, it appeared that some frustration set in pretty early. Freppon and Snow ended up in several 1v1 situations at midfield early in the match with neither one backing down on any of them, I would say that they both won their fair share of these battles. After a handful of these occurred it seemed like Freppon got to the point that enough was enough, he basically flattened Snow on one of the 50/50 balls and was immediately sent off with a Yellow. This foul pretty well set the tone for the rest of the match, there were several hard fouls and a lot of physical play... nothing I would call dirty by any means... just really hard played soccer. I think there were about 3 or 4 yellows given to both squads and both coaches were also lucky recipients of one.

 

Cooper did a pretty good job of dictating the pace for the biggest part of the first half and had NCC on their heels the majority of the time. Other than a couple of chances off of set pieces, and corners, NCC did not threaten the goal. Cooper held a 2-0 lead at half.

 

In the second half, both teams came out with even more intensity which made for some pretty good soccer. Both teams had a couple chances to capitalize early in the second half but neither did. As the match wore on, Cooper became content with not pressing forward and worked to keep the clean sheet. Over the final 10 minutes, NCC pushed players forward in hopes of cutting into the lead, if not for a few misplaced headers the results could have been different. I think that both teams seemed pretty evenly matched and this was a good battle for both teams.

 

Early in the match, a Cooper player took a shot at goal just outside of the box that struck a player (#10) from NCC in the head before it traveled 5 feet, prayers going out that he is OK and is able to get back on the pitch soon.

Glad to report that I received news on the player from NCC that took the shot in the head, he is doing OK, not showing any signs of being concussed. A very fortunate young man!!!

Up 2-0 at half, I thought Cooper did a nice job defending to preserve the lead while keeping a very credible threat in counterattack. Moescher was not in too bad shape and it is wider than I thought (70 wide). But after a couple of other games there this week, it was a hard surface for NCC to develop a patient attack to unlock Cooper's D. Exciting game to watch. Very physical but I thought the officials did a good -- not perfect, but good -- job keeping it from getting out of hand.

I for one, am glad to see Cooper playing "soccer", it is a nice change from the "hope we can out score you" version that they were pretty well forced to play the past couple of years... credit goes out to the staff for working to build a soccer program at Cooper.

 

I liked the changes they have made at Morscher, when completed, I think it will be a nice field... adding some stands would make it a nice venue. I thought the surface was in nice shape, I guess this is all relative, I have been looking at Cooper's field the past couple of weeks.

Caught the second half of this game and it was a nice match. If Cooper has any young ones coming up they could be strong going forward. I've seen Snow play club. So was not surprised by his abilities but was was surprised to see him adjust well to the size, speed and physical nature of HS. He probably has the most overall talent on the team and will nice seeing him advance even further.

 

I had heard about issues the Cooper's coach has had with Refs and I didn't see or hear anything more than usual from any typical coach.

 

Definitely a shame you are watching at field level there. It's hard seeing some if the play develop with that viewpoint.

Totally different team defensively. Williams has been great in the goal. Goal scoring has been distributed very well, 5 players with at least 2 goals. I like the recipe.

I only qualified my statement so that someone wouldn't jump down NY throat for saying the refs did a good job... thanks for jumping down my throat anyway!

I like how they look for the next few years, they currently start 4 Sophomores, and 2 Freshman. There are a few additional Freshman and a couple 8th graders that are looking pretty promising as well.
