The Mustangs played their first home game of the season at Pendrey Park, the friendly pitch along the Ohio River. The Mustangs didn’t disappoint as again dominated time of possession, shots and goals beating the Holy Cross Indians 3-1.

 

The Mustangs seemed to have the ball in the Indians goal area all night long but were unable to score in the first half. In the 42nd minute the Mustangs thought they had their first goal when Nick Dierig beat the defense and sent a excellent cross to the left post that met the head of Evan Berkemeyer and found the net, but it was called offsides and the score we were still tied at zeros. The Mustangs would strike right back, getting on the board in the 45th minute when Sam Parnell sent a ball to Evan Berkemeyer who made a nice move and then a one touch cross to Justin Schultz who buried it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

 

In the 54th minute the Mustangs thought they got had another one when Nick Dierig sent a rocket that hit the crossbar and was cleared by the defense. After the heat index break in the second half the Mustangs would get the eventual game winner when Justin Rolf sent a missle on frame, which the Holy Cross Keeper deflected, however Cody Chism anticipated the block was there to get a foot on the loose ball and sent it into the net for the game winning goal. The Indians got a foul call in the 63rd minute of the game. The free kick was taken from 22 yards out and got over the wall and the outstretched arms of Jeff Paulin. It was only the Indian’s second shot of the night. It was a perfect strike and really the only bright spot for the Indians.

 

The Mustangs picked up the Geico Insurance Goal of the night and play of the game in the 82nd minute when Nick Dierig flipped the ball over the heads of two Indian defenders and then beat them both to the ball and took one touch and shot from 12 yards out for the 3-1 lead and the final score. The Mustangs looked dangerous all night as they keep the pressure and shots on target. The Mustangs had 24 shots and 17 on goal to only 2 shots for the Indians and both were on goal. The Mustangs defense wouldn’t allow the Indians to get anything going on offense as it took a free kick for the Indians to score.

 

The Mustangs return to action on Saturday at Calvary Christian to take on the Paris in the semifinal of the 10th Region ALL A Classic Tournament.

I'm sure that is tongue-in-cheek. Even the most ardent Mustangs fans know that field is less than ideal.

I have been saving up my money, we head to the "more expensive" place down on Route 8 this weekend and I expect that they will charge extra for any repellents that you may need.
