August 13, 201412 yr IMO, Shooting Star is one of the most "underrated" bands ever! Anyone growing up and listening to WEBN in the NKY/Greater Cincinnati back in the 80's heard tons of their music. They never had a song hit the Billboard Top 40, yet in support of their albums they toured as opening acts for Triumph, Heart, ZZ Top, Journey, Bryan Adams, REO Speedwagon, John Mellencamp, Kansas, Jefferson Starship, and others. When headlining they performed to sold-out shows all over the Midwest. I personally saw them at the Riverfront Coliseum, Bogarts, Nutter Center, and Millet Hall. Gary West (lead vocals, guitars, keyboards) and Van McLain (guitars, vocals) wrote 99% of all their songs, and both had great skills arranging the music and composing the lyrics. In the November 4, 1989 issue of Billboard Magazine, the album, "Touch Me Tonight: The Best of Shooting Star" secured a trivial place in rock music history by becoming the first album to reach that magazine's pop albums chart without being available in a vinyl record format. Some of you might not recognize the band, but I would venture to guess you have heard some of their songs..........so what say you? Any Shooting Star fans out there?
