I hope they plan on having 2 football teams. That's a killer IMO with a school that big.

Huge big controversy over making just one Middle School. Once the plan was in place, it was hard to change by state laws.

So, a range of roughly 15 kids between these 3 schools. A & C are a wash for me...give it a couple weeks when summer is over and school starts, and I bet both of those are sitting around the same number of kids.

 

As for B..size of the school? Same size as A & C? I know you said they feed into either a 5A or 6A school, but I just wonder if it's one of 2-3 Middle Schools that feed into said HS (ie: Henderson County with North and South Middle; GRC and its two middle schools, etc).

 

With the NKY area having multiple youth leagues (these kids end up playing HS everywhere in NKY) as well as MS teams I will answer this just based on the MS teams.

 

Team A - only feeder to 5A HS

Team B - One of two MS teams to feed a 6A HS

Team C- only feeder to a 6A HS.

You have to understand that the numbers are going to fluctuate in an area like NKY, Louisville and Lexington. There are just more opportunities to spend your time in multiple areas in a larger city. You have to take into account: maybe there is a new, exciting and dynamic soccer coach at the middle school age in the area and he is making soccer more fun for those kids, maybe a new travel baseball team started up and everyone wants to be on that team together. The numbers will change back when a school dominates in the middle school football league. Everyone will want to be part of that. It's circular to a degree. "The next big thing" kind of mentality.

Dont disagree, but just seeing an overall of #'s. It was just a few years ago that 5-6 of the MS teams had 50-75 on their team, and over time it gets less and less. However I do find it difficult for teams to dominate when numbers are down as you stated, to get their numbers up.

I think as far as lower numbers at the youth level it won't hurt the high school teams due to most of the kids that play football that it is their second or third sport, probably wouldn't play in high school anyway. With all the specialization going on, and I'm afraid it will only get worse, many kids aren't playing mulitiply sports very much anymore. The more talented football players at the youth level are going to continue to play through high school, but more of the fringe players at the youth level are going to concentrate on their main sport whether it is baseball, basketball or soccer. With more youth football leagues available for kids to choose from, it was going to be a challenge to keep numbers up to be able for teams to have good practices to prepare for game day.
