Greenup County 2014

Featured Replies

What does Greenup County need to do to improve in 2014? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

GC will improve again this year. The big question mark this season is how soon 1000+ yard rb Ryan Byrd will be fully recovered from knee surgery. That being said RB is probably where gc is deepest. Sophomores Jackson and Wright will contribute alot back there. Wright has big time speed and has made huge strides in the weight room. Matt Lawson seems to have fully recovered from knee surgery 2 seasons ago and will be a mainstay in the backfield. The oline will be pretty solid but not much depth. Kyle Cochran and Drew Johnston are strong and athletic and will lead the defense. Alot of other Sophomores will battling for starting positions. Warnock (FB), Clarke (LB) Collier (G) Craycraft (T) Ailster (E). Craycraft and Clarke both started most of the year last season. Warnock and Wright are both squating 400+ and Ailster and Collier have gotten much stronger this off season. Junior Jared Hunt will be in his second season at qb and should be much more comfortable in his role this season. WR Rusty Wells will be the big play threat again this season.

I look for GC to have a much better season. That District schedule is brutal!

Nah, I'll speak on behalf of the actual decision makers and say we will pass. LOL

Ryan Byrd has officially been cleared.

Good for him. I hope he can have a healthy season.

I have heard TJ Quillen is also back and playing as a senior. Will be a factor on defense covering receivers which has been a huge weakness for GC the past several years.

When you look at GC last year, they were 2-9 but they were "in" every game with the exception of Raceland, Ashland and Johnson Central. Having been 0 and 22 the previous 2 seasons, a lot of those games were lost in crunch time. They return all of their skill people and have the most balance in the classes in at least the last 7 or 8 years. I look for them to take another step forward this year and win several more.

Quillen showed up a few weeks before dead period. Very athletic and could also help in the passing game if he sticks it out.

I agree with others on here in that I think that GC will continue to show improvement in 2014The best of luck to the Musketeers this season....with the exception of your game vs. Raceland..... :)

BTW....I also agree with I will vote to keep our (Rams) district schedule.

And they were most definitely in the Raceland game as well. I remember Greenup took the lead in the first quarter off a pick six on a jailbreak screen. Kind of sent us a wake up call telling us that Greenup isn't 0-22 anymore, they're better than that. Still really happy to see them win a couple last year. Hopefully they can win some more this year and get the program back up and running in a positive direction.

Injuries also hurt how they were able to finish up last season. Byrd missed the last 5 games with the knee injury and was the leading rusher by far at the time. Cochran and Wells both missed the last 4 games with an mcl injury and a concussion. Those were 3 significant losses on a fairly thin, young roster last year. They lost 2 or 3 close games in the second half of the season even without those three.
