Yet again for another year the District finals comes down to the two "big dogs" in the district. The host Bluebirds will be looking to "turn the tides" on the Breds who have won the last two district titles and 4 of the last 5, the Birds claimed the 2011 title. Since the NewCath fastpitch varsity program began back in 2006, the Breds have won the District Title in '07,'09,'10,'12, & '13.

 

In today's match-up the Birds will be without So. starting pitcher, Bailey Spencer, who is done for the season after having emergency Appendectomy surgery on Sunday. JV starter 8th grader, Miranda Mason, got the nod in the Semi-Final tilt against Dayton and gave up only two hits. Coach Coffey might throw Jr. Peyton Leighty, but she has had shoulder issues most of the season, so he could bring in the "secret weapon"..........Shelby Graybill :eek::scared:

 

The Breds, like last season, are looking to avenge two regular season set-backs at the hand of the Birds to claim the victory when it counts.

 

All the action takes place tonight at the "Bird Cage" at 6:00.

 

Also.....according to Meatpuppy and Four King Crazy the hot dogs are "to die for". :up:

I say it's a shame for Bailey Spencer to miss this time of the season.....the only saving grace is she is an underclassman. For the Birds, despite her obvious pitching contribution, they are streaking/peaking at the right time with some steller Def. and hitting throughout the line-up and this will have to carry the day for them to win.

Although Highlands was poised to make a statement this year, I think they will settle for a W any way they can get it. Season results and streaks are out the window for these two teams now.

If HHS is able to continue their outstanding hitting and get great D, they will win. NCC has a chance with Myers on the mound but will have to capitalize by stringing legitimate hits together off the young pitcher. Regardless, this has the makings of a great game........

I will be there! The Hot Dogs are very good! I have taken in too many of them over the last 3 days!

 

This game should be worth the $5 price of admission as these 2 have battled to some close games over the last couple years! The Lady Birds have been on a roll lately averaging in double digit hits over the last 14 or 15 games, and NCC always shows up to play in the Championship Game! We will see if the birds bats can stay hot vs the young pitcher for NCC and Co Player of the year winner. Likewise it should be an interesting matchup of the co players of the year! Will she pitch to Graybill? I doubt it.

 

I think it will come down to which team plays the best D!

As a coach, I know when things are frustrating, you don't wanna be bothered. I kept my distance.

It lived up to the billing of a Championship Game! Turned out to be a pitchers duel. Worth the price admission!
