IHSAA votes in sixth class for football, tradition factor for team sports

 

 

Here’s how it works: on a sport-by-sport basis, schools will earn one point for a sectional championship, two for a regional championship, three for a semi-state title and four for a state title. If a school earns six points or more in a two-year classification cycle, it will compete in the next higher enrollment for the ensuing two seasons. Tournament success achieved in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 schools years will be used to determine classifications in 2013-14.

Ok, so for the first year its a normal 6 class system based on enrollment, and then teams start jumping around based on how they do.

Interesting concept...I brought up a similar thought on here a few years ago.

Seems the KHSAA is a trend setter on the 6 class system.

This doesn't work unless you also add in a declining point system for # of seniors graduated.
