Conferences in the NCAA Tourney

Featured Replies

Time to have some fun ;)

Some conferences that are struggling and others that so far are still doing good.

yes ACC folks, this is just a little fun dig your way.

ACC got 6 teams invited to the big dance.

SEC got 3

As of 11pm Saturday Night, the ACC only has 2 teams left and the SEC still has all 3 teams left.

Things that make you go hmmmmmm :lol2:

Teams make tournaments. Teams perform. Teams win.

Leagues can do none of them.

This is like using bowl game performances to judge the relative strength of leagues in football. It's overly simplistic and usually wildly inaccurate.

Before the tourney started, I said the American and the SEC were underrated ad the A10 and Big East were overrated. I feel good about that seeing how the tourney has turned out so far.

Keep in mind that a fair comparison is to look at how many teams are left as of 11 tonight, since the third round will be completed by then.

Well with 10 mins left in their game, TN is winning by 16 and if they hang on and win then all 3 SEC teams make it to the sweet 16 while the ACC who had 6 teams in the tourney only has 1 I believe that will make it to the sweet 16.

That pretty much supports what we've said all along.

Who was the other conference that got 6 teams in?

Who was the other conference that got 6 teams in?

The Atlantic 10, which using Hellbird's method of accounting here has, like the SEC, outperformed itself. None of the A-10 teams that made it were seeded in a way that suggested they would make it out of the first weekend; that is to say: they were all seeded 5 or below.

Dayton, an 11 seed, is the only remaining member of the conference and is outperforming its seed.

Tennessee and Kentucky are outperforming their seed for the SEC. Florida is right where they should be expected to be.

Big 10, Atlantic 10, Pac12 and ACC all got 6 bids, the Big12 got 7

For Dayton to knock off Ohio State (Big 10) and Syacruse (ACC) has to be the biggest 2 wins so far in the tourney! Has a good shot to advance to the elite 8!

SEC was trashed all year about being weak, but now they're starting to show that the SEC does have quality teams.

The SEC was weak. The SEC has quality teams. Both can be -- and are -- perfectly true.

They could have had 4 teams in if you include Arkansasat but that isn't my gripe.

i had no problem with only 2 teams making it with another p,aging the play in game.

Problem I had was the committee once again The committee overrating the ACC. They were the 5th best conference by some accounts and no way deserved to have 6 teams in the tournament. 2 of those teams not even ranked in the top 25 in any poll.

That is what I had a problem with besides the overrating of many of those teams in those conferences. Duke should never have been a 3 seed while better teams like Louisville being a 4 seed. It's things like that year after year that gets me frustrated with the selection process. Talk about Duke and their 4 titles all you want, but when Duke averages a 2 seeds once the beginning of the seedings yet only having 4 titles is a problem as well as also having been beaten by 4-5 double digit seeded teams already. The selection committee has problems.

In the end, the SEC now has all 3 teams that got in if TN holds on, going to the sweet 16 and the ACC is down to 1 team left.

The Big Ten has essentially met expectations with the only three teams seeded in any region's top four all advancing to the Sweet 16.

The Big XII has not met expectations, but with the injury to Embiid, those expectations should probably have been adjusted.

The PAC 12 seems to have met seeding expectations as well.

The ACC is a disaster and the SEC has outperformed.

I agree that as an overall whole, they were weak. But they had a lot of quality teams that could have broke a couple more high-seeded hearts.

And thank you for the welcome, been here for a day and already addicted!

The selection committee has problems.

Definitely agree with that. 12 seeds are 15-13 against 5 seeds since 2008. That suggests to me that the committee simply isn't very good at seeding this spots. No way should that many 12 seeds win regularly.

Agree big time.

It

s nice to see it every once in awhile, but this happens every year with a 12 seed winning.
