As Somerset this year we had 7 seniors. Coach Thacker let 5 of them start and kept Ray Norman and Nathan Holton who have been starting for a long time at Somerset sit out. It was great for senior night because even Andy Cole who has been out due to tearing his ACL early in the season was able to start although he had to be taken out before the ball was tipped.

Raceland had 6 seniors this season and Pecos Osborn a starter all season and a double figure scorer for the Rams gave up his starting spot in a totally unselfish move and showed alot of class in letting one of his fellow classmates get the start on senior night for the first varsity start of his career against the top team in the 16th Morgan Co. Thank you Pecos for sharing your spot obviously basketball has revealed your character!! :thumb:

I say 100% yes they should start. My coach did and it was the only varsity game i ever started and it was something i will remember. After 4 years of hard work i think a senior has earned it.

Armchair addresses something that came to mind when I saw the thread topic. Assuming that the effort and team spirit is consistent I would agree that senior night is a time to honor the seniors. What better way than to start them?

 

But as ESPN guy states sometimes throughout a long season some players tend to lose the team spirit when things don't turn out as they expect. The starting spots, even on Senior Night, are still earned. They should be earned with attitude and respect instead of talent.
