Moeller to take on St. Ignatius in Dublin, Ohio for two years

Featured Replies

From Cincy Enquirer:

The Moeller football team, which has won back-to-back Division I state titles, will play Cleveland St. Ignatius Oct. 18 in a regular-season game scheduled at Dublin Coffman. The game will mark the first of a two-year deal at Dublin Coffman, according to Moeller AD Mike Asbeck.

Moeller will be the home team this season with the Wildcats being the home team in 2015.

The reason for Dublin Coffman as the site is to save time on travel from each respective city (Dublin area being a meeting point between Cincinnati and Cleveland) and the money it costs to travel.

Surprised that it is not just a home and home series instead of a neutral site. Money never seems to be an issue with Moeller.

I like it. Obviously like the match up between two of the state's top programs.

Like the neutral site of Columbus area a lot as well. Probably had something to do with money, but also I'm sure other factors played into this as well.

At the top of the list, I would guess is this allows the game to be played in the evening thus significantly decreasing the chances of the game conflicting with Ohio State and/or Notre Dame football on Saturday afternoon. That's huge for the gate.

When Cincy and Cleveland teams play home and home it requires an afternoon date which means a very early morning for one school plus the above conflict. Or, it requires the visiting team to return home sometime around 3 am. Neither option is real good.

I wonder if sites like Columbus Crew stadium were looked into before they settled on Coffman?

I like the match up wish they would have played this in Grove City or Pickerington (North high school.
